View Full Version : Aftermarket silencer too long?

I have been looking for a silencer to replace my stock one and I have noticed that some silencers are longer than the stock silencer, such as the FMF, in the "unlikely" event that I lift the front wheels off the ground and go too far over the grab bar always stops me with no damage to anything else, if I get a new silencer that is longer I am afraid I will damage it or rip it off.
Any thoughts?

I have a WB E-Series silencer and it touches the ground about the same time as the grab bar. When it does hit, it doesn't hit hard enough to tear the silencer off, but it will scuff it up.

Why the aftermarket exhaust manufacturers build their silencers knowing that this will occur, I will never know.

it's cause we have to go back to them to get another one which equals $$$$$ for them

what i have a wb slip on and it dosent even come close to touching the ground when i over shoot wheelies but my friend with the FMF pc4 almost bent his back when he over shot and almost hit a rock.
They make em longer so you are able to get all that power out of a exhaust system it must be something that they put in it that take a lot of room

my e-series used to hit.. and i actually put a bunch of dents in the end cap and got tired of worrying about it so i milled about 5inches off the end of mine...looks pretty neat too

5 inches? thats almost half the pipe, my WB e series has never hit the ground when i stand it up on the grab bar and it doesnt get dented when i overshoot wheelies

I lift my quad up on the grab bar when cleaning it and my powercore pipe doesn't hit the ground,,it's close but doesn't hit the ground,,

I'm with Rico on this one. I'm real close, like maybe 2-3 millimeters but I technically don't touch. I have the powercore IV.

All of you that talk about how close it is to the ground but dosen't touch consider the grab bar also dig into the groun when it hits..i know mines like a sod cutter and lifts all the grass up

StevenGates,
Like my best friends old man use to say: If you haven't crashed, you haven't ridden.

I think to put that in todays words: If you're not riding on the edge, you're takin' up too much space.

OUCHHHH,,,,that's gonna leave a mark.

Well dadex steven drag races so there's not much that can go wrong I don't guess if your just goin in a straight line. I guess you could hit a duck or something goin across the lanes while hammerin down...:huh
