Does anyone know what i need to do to keep this from happening. About 6 months ago it happened and i had to put a new piston and hone the cylendar, which was $1200 i do not know why this is happening and i do not want to pay that much again. On some other posts they say i could have to much oil but it is a little under high. Can someone please help me.

First off, welcome to atvriders. :)

Can you give us some history on the quad, like how many hours you got on it since your last rebuild? Have you done a compression test? Is it burning oil......where exactly is it leaking from?

I took it to a shop and the valve seals went bad so two valves cracked and the others went bad. I have to put in a new piston because oil got past and warped the piston... all in all I have to pay 800 to 1000 $$$$$

:huh dude im sorry but you got me plum lost here. Valve stem seals going bad will cause oil to seep on top of the cyl. Never heard of it causing a cracked valve??? And how does oil cause a piston to warp????

I dont exactly know that is what my shop is saying ... it is really pissin me off... before oil was getting past the piston from underneath now its on top. That is waht my shop is saying. They said if you would touch the valve seals that they would break. I dont really know what is goin on either what i said is what the shop told me.

Sounds like it is time to take it somewhere else for a second opinion. :ermm:

If you read above it says ... basically they had to go throughout the whole engine ... hone it out, new piston, valves, valve seals, and the other stuff... 600 $ in labor... man i could have put a whole bunch of other stuff on that i actually wanted.

i HATE labor fees so much.
when i blew the head on mine its was $1765!
it was a complete head rebuild, HRC kit, and LABOR!
the labor was like $580 or something like that

Glad you got your quad fixed:macho

You guys need to invest $25 in a manual and learn to do things yourself. It's really not hard at all if you have any mechanical skills. I'd go broke if I were paying what you guys are paying for rebuilds. $1800 for fixing a motor is absolute rape.

Yup, get you a service manual and dig in or if you know someone that can teach you, that is the best way to learn.

When you work on your quad yourself, it is much more self rewarding. I love to ride my quad, but then again, I enjoy wrenching and tuning as well. :)

I USUALY DO work on my quad all the time & i DO have a service manual.
i was just going out of state for a month so i decided to take it in and have it fixed by the time i got back.
I agree though doing it yourself IS way more rewarding and helps keep some extra cash for other things.
