Well, my cylinder came today, and so did the pipe and piston. I ordered a carb and radiator for it too, so it should be sweet.

Not a bad way to spend some money, tell me are you in debt enough lol. or do you have contacts in Columbia :D
Is this gonna be a dragster? or a racer? Racer I hope, I would hate to waste that on drag racing. IF I had the money Id proably get one of those for mine, or a puny 265 Sparks PV. I remember reading about that cyl a while back in ATV sport, I think they had a few bugs in it, I assume they have them worked out correct? And I think they said it was for men only lol J/k with ya

Yeah i hope they got the bugs worked out, or u got yourself one VERY expensive time bomb. I believe it was Jared Huffman that ran one in the GNCCs, and couldnt keep it together. But when it was running, that thing was scary fast! Hope it holds up for ya!

they only fall apart if u cant take care of them, dont listin to other people that complain, most people that belive somthing hav NEVER had any experiance with it, they are baseing their bullsh*t on someone elses words, or what a pro thinks, personally, my 440 made my R seem like an angel, lol

12-10-2002, 06:48 PM
Damn you, you can beat my banshee now, thats ok, i have something for that POS 425R :D

Woud anyone be interested in buying this motor?

beerock
12-10-2002, 08:44 PM
I hope all the parts U and I discuss work out wel alky ;)

I dunno if you did it yet or not, but see if you can get the other gears of the mootr isotropically coated...

did you get a hinson 8 plate clutch basket kit yet?

the whole test to how long it lasts is the love that you put into it when assembling it.

;)

make sure you break that motor in right.

I'd run a 2 tanks through it with constant on off throttle and no wot, until near the end of the 2nd tank

Dang man, you should be able to get at least 30 HP out of that thing;) No really, when you expect to have it together?? Cant wait to see how it all looks? Be sure to get some dyno numbers for it,,,I see a R in my near future and I have to be sure I build mine faster:D

Its gonna be a TT quad. They make 265's and 330's too, so you could grab one of those if you want. I think the 265 makes like 65 hp or something. I hope they have the bugs worked out...

JustRace, yep, it WILL look perfect in MY R. lol :p

Chad, I'm hoping to have a completed 425R in my garage by the middle of february, but that might not be enough time. I have a LLOOONNGGG way to go before its done. I'm hoping for almost 3 times 30hp...:D mmm mmmmm goood!

Beerock, I am working out the 8 plate deal with the quadshop right now actually. Your break in procedure is almost exact to theirs, except for they also said 3 10 minute idle sessions with no throttle to start it off. I haven't called baldwin about the gears yet, but those shouldnt be a problem to get, right?

Looking good man.....That thing is gonna be scary fast...Next project should be a trinity 440 stroker with powervalves....Are you going to race both the 400 and R next year?

Best pic I have of the ports

beerock
12-11-2002, 09:38 PM
dude, get better pics of the port work PLEASE!
like this
http://users.rcn.com/beerock/portworkin.jpg

I wanna see the different port set up they have on their cylinder.

and as for baldwin, they only coat the gears on one of the shafts, not both.. I think your gonna have to call them up and talk to them about haveing the other gears treated.

or perhaps find out how they do it and have someone local do it.

I definately think the beefing up of the tranny is something youll need to do. (along with all the other gears)

remember some people are gonna say it aint worth it(isotropic coating), but dude, is it worth the risk, DO IT!??

ya thats the exhaust port on a stock cyl r.

airheadedduner
12-12-2002, 12:54 AM
The stock R port is bridged. It helps support the piston and rings so you can widen the port larger then normal. A lot of people shave the bridge but if you shave it too much when it gets hot it pushes out into the cylinder and seizes the rings.

Evan
12-12-2002, 01:22 AM
If Im not mistaken, the 86-87 had a bridged port where as the 88-89 did not have that bridge. This gave the 86-87 better lowend, while the 88-89 had better topend. (motorwise) They had different internal gearing also........

SandTrix
12-12-2002, 09:40 AM
The 87-89 cylinders had bridges on the intakes for better support of the piston, while the 85-86 jugs did not. Both had exhaust bridges as well. My latest alky 250cc motor I removed the exhaust bridge to try and gain a little more peak hp. I havent had the time to do enough testing with the motor to reveal any pros or cons. Needless to say the port work is very very wild.

When CT did my 295 they added bridges to the intake of my cylinder. Alot of ported cylinders I have seen they remove the intake bridge and leave the exhuast one alone. As long as you got enough material to seal then I guess it is okay.

Evan
12-12-2002, 11:48 AM
Ok so I was partly right, partly wrong.

airheadedduner
12-12-2002, 12:00 PM
Unless you are sleeveing the cylinder it would not be worth it. All they did was not cut the sleeve where the bridges should be.

BTW where did you get that pic???? Do you got a stack of old DW or something under your bead??

Evan
12-12-2002, 12:28 PM
I got it out of an old dirtbike mag

Kinda looks like in the last part of that ad it says for highly experienced riders 14 and older... haha. They are making kids under 16 ride 90cc quads nowadays. I miss the good ol days. :D
I bet you those old articles and ad's could snag you a few bucks on e-bay. I've seen them for sale on there in the $20-something range.
