If you do a search in the classifieds there is a guy that was selling a 525 in a Laeger chassis in OH. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to put the quad motor in.

But honestly with all the choices in 4-stroke race quads that fit perfectly, why would anybody want to put one in a 250R chassis anymore?

well for one,400ex frames are taller so it would be easier to install the taller ktm motor.I can imagine it could be done in a r frame but it wouldnt be a piece of cake;)

Thats kinda odd you bring up a R based KTM powered hybrid, as I was just going through a Feb. 05 dirtwheels and an add from legacy ATV jumped out(PG. 91) ...it was an aftermarket 250r frame built for the KTM 520 MOTOR. It seems as though Legacy no longer exists as I cant pull thier site up.

Before I go hacking up an R frame & if I able to use a 400 frame, what would the best yr frame to get? And does the 400 handle & perform the closest to an R?

Most of the 400EX frames are going to be the same, only the newest might be different, and I think they're only so for body mounting.

The 400's handle pretty well, but they sit you much higher, so you feel like you're going to fall off when you first get on, after riding an R.

I actually ride a 04 ATK right now & the seat height is 32.5 & these quads run a no link set-up. But can't you put on a adjustable dog bone & lower the 400, what's the average seat height on the 400's?

Is there a way to move this thread to the 400ex forum? I feel like that's where alot of the info needs to come from now.

I need to correct myself. The 250R seat heights are 30.5 and 31.1 inches for the two generations, but the first generation 400ex is 31.9 inches. I normally ride an R, but the times I've hopped on a 400, it felt a lot higher.
