Last time I posted about my 400ex brake disc being a little bent and it was touching the pads. After no caring about it, I noticed that the brake disk is loose, but not on the 4 bolts, on the axle. there is alot of play going up and down and the big bolt to the right of it has play to, I can turn it but it doesnt get loose. What is the problem here?

So you are saying that the disk mounting flange is loose on the axle?

that sounds right. and the big bolt on the right of it has play to. Play in the direction of tightening and loosening the bolt

sounds like to me u r going to have to tighten up your axle lock nuts or even replace axle bearings the inside nut i beleive is left hand threads one or the other is dont remember some one else chime in on that

I Hope I dont have to replace the bearings.

What do you mean by left hand thread?

Yep... your axle lock nut is not set/tight where it should be.

Mine's tight it seems, but I have the same problem... but minor play.

I haven't rounded up the wrenches I need to deal with it yet.

What does setting it do? line up the brake disc with the caliper?

I was wondering, will this problem cause my wheel to wobble a little bit to?? I put the rear end on a stand and when I spun the wheels it wobbles a little

Grab your tire... wiggle it good... just the tire/wheel... checking to see if it is loose... wheel-2-hub... or hub-2-axle.

Insure those nuts are tight... if that's not it... could be the axle or bearings.

My friends 400ex also has play in the same spots.

IF I dont immediately change the bearings, saying if they are the bearings, will this cause bigger problems in the long run? Such as?

If you dont change your bearing when they are bad then you can ruin you entire carrier and axle but i dont think that is your problem. My bet is that its the axle lock nut. There is an article on the site on how to tighten it and how much to torque it to. You should get wrenches instead of the pipe wrench trick. G Force makes wrenches that attach to your torque wrench for about 20 bucks and they work great.

SO if I attempt to tighten my lock nuts and they dont move, could it be my bearings?

how would I tell it is my bearings? the whole axle will move around im guessing?

You have to tighten up the axle nut. If after you tighten it up the axle its self still has play in it the bearings are shot.
