This can be done 2 ways.
1. 15 or 15 1/2" no link shock will work.
2. I believe the top mount has to come back and up to use a 17 1/2" no link shock.
I have seen them done both ways. However, the 2nd way is the only good way!
Here is a picture of 2nd way. This set-up works well!

My cousin runs a Lobo no link rear on his stock '87 frame. No issues with any clearances at all.

As I stated earlier....... Moving the top mount is a much better set-up. Actually it is like comparing a stock set-up to a long travel no-link. There is no comparison. A 15 inch shock is not the best period.
A Roll Lobo no-link runs a 18.5 inch shock. " BEST"
A Lonestar no- link set-up runs a 17.5 inch shock "GOOD"
A OEM frame with no-link swingarm runs 15.5 inch shock."WORKS"

doc bones could we talk, you seem to have some knowledge about this subject and I got many questions,
1- no link vs Cr 500?
2- do you have any plans or instructions for the welder to do this mod for the 17" shock I mean I dont want to take it somewhere and get something that does not work
3-will any no link swinger work?

walsh has plans to make a CR500 link work on a stock frame, if you convert your frame to CR500 then any swinger cr500 link should work with the right shock or am I wrong?
I am going to Pm you my email and phone
Thanks, it would just be easier on the phone than this way.
Thanks for the info.

Move upper mount UP 1.75" AND BACK 1.50"
IF YOU WANT EXTRA SAG IN THE REAR YOU CAN GO UP ABOUT 1/8" MORE!

If you are going to go to the effort to change the rear shock mount, I'd just go with the CR500 link setup.

If you are not going to be racing pro - then I'm pretty sure that running a no-link shock with a no-link swingarm will be plenty good if it's valved right.

Put it into perspective - a Raptor, 300ex and many others don't run linkages and they have short shocks. They are not that bad.

I don't believe you need to be concerned with the extra 2 inches for what you want.

Something else to consider is calling LSR and ask them if they make a swingarm that is no-link for a stock frame and what length shock it uses, because if they don't, you'll be stuck trying to find a no-link swingarm and shock used, which isn't very common.

I've never tried this out, but I've read it a couple places that you can run a banshee rear shock and connect it directly to the standard swingarm linkage mount and run it as a no-link.

Either way, you should just make the decision as either are good and even though they may be better, the stock 250R linkage is pretty good or racers wouldn't have used them for almost 20 years, aftermarkets would have come up with new ones like they have on the 450's out of necessity.

Comparing the 17.5" and 18.5" shocks/setups, how much of a difference does that 1" difference make? Is it noticeable? I run a LSR no link setup which uses a 17-5/8" shock.

I am not positive but i dont think the lobo is 18.5 inches, or at least the couple lobo shocks i have had were only 17.5.

I run a Custom Axis no link shock on the rear of my Roll Design Lobo chassis. I just went out to the garage and measured it and it's 17.5 inches center to center.

Ok so can someone please clear all this up. I read the whole thread but left me still confused. I am very interested in running an 18.5" shock in my stock frame.

18.5" shock wont happen on a stock frame.

ok what is possible with a stock frame? I am wanting to build a long travel woods quad and have been told that the cr500 link is too low. I dont have much experience with this subject if someone could please lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I know a Roll or laeger would be the way to go but I am on the family budget.

Honestly if u cant afford an aftermarket frame, just drop the money on a good aftermarket shock to fit the rear. Theres nothing else u can really do. Some people might tell u about the walsh cr 500 conversion for a stock frame but its not worth the hassle.
