Just got my son a TRX 90 and was wondering how the 300ex front end conversion kit from Diamond J Customs sells is any good or not.. I have a complete 300ex for parts so all I need is the brackets.?? Is this worth while or not? Please some opinions... My son wants to try a race or 2 next year .. he is only 8 ... if he likes it I plan on buying him a DRX90 but didnt want a ton ivested in the bike to start with. Please let me know.
Thanks

I am not crazy about the geometry of this kit. Because of what Diamond has to do to get things to fit, it widens the frame mounts way wide.

That being said... the DRR is a totally different riding/racing style than the 4 stroke Honda. If you have the donor bike already, it might not be a bad investment and you could always convert everything back if you don't like it.

I've wondered, why not use 400 a arms with this kit? Would it make it too wide?

Well i am stuck with either using my 250x as the parts donor since it needs an engine anyways and just buy a new one for me, or just put a 300ex engine in mine and buy his new control arms.. I just didnt want to invest that much money into because if he likes racing he is getting a new one.

I have this kit on my sons trx 90 and he bent the brackets badly after 2 races,after doing some mods to the brackets and the upper shock mounts it is working just fine and he is competing with drr,apex etc.but it will not hold up the way they send it to you.If you decide to go with it I can tell you what worked for us.

Diamond J set up is okay... it needs a lot of tuning, but for the money it works good! I have linked a video of my 5 year old racing a 13 yr old. The 13 yr old has the Diamond J kit and my 5 yr old has Robbs Racing suspension other than that they are the same!
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JTBYZ_OF_wc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JTBYZ_OF_wc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

BTW the 5 yr old won the race!

Also dont use diamond J rear shock kit just reweld your stock swingarm +2 it is much better!!!

Yes you are correct about that... we made the brackets a lot stronger.

There is a big price difference for him to start with..so I am not sure what way to go.

What does the Rob's racing kit go for?

The main concern is for a little bit wider stance and a little more suspension travel/

Robbs racing kit is much more than Diamond J! You will spend at least $1200 on shocks alone for the Robbs kit. For more info contact RobbsRacing.com

On the diamond j kit you will need to make a flat bar to go between the upper a-arm mounts in the front and back to tie them together either drill holes and bolt in place or weld.on the upper shock mounts it only comes with one support bracket and this causes twisting,you cant add anather bracket in the back cause there is no room,so what I did was cut the spring off one of the stock front shocks and mounted it (the shock not the spring) between the mounts and it has held up great.this sounds goofy but but it will make sense if you decide to do it.

What rear axle/ brake swingarm set is that? I am still trying to figure out the rear.

Thanks for the pics.

I was told I can use 400ex rear hubs to widen the rear out instead of spacers.. I bought a set and the xle size is a lot larger on the 400ex .. are Kasea rear hubs the only ones that will work?

Axle = 300EX
Carrier = 300EX
Disk brake & carrier = TRX450R
Lock nut = TRX450R
Sprocket = TRX90
Spocket spacer = 14mm made myself to correct offset of chain

what about the rear swingarm.. Did you buy one premade or did you have it made yourself to accept the 300ex carrier.

Also is there any hubs that will directly change the wheel pattern over to 4/110 so I can use some wheels I already have.

400ex will not work as you found out. You will need to make some spacers or buy them.

Bottom line is even when you get the suspension done you will still need to build the motor to keep up with the 2 smokes. If I was on a tight budget and just wanted to go race I would buy the new APEX they are about $2500 new!

So once you do a Diamond J kit and spend about 10hrs making it work correctly you still have a slow motor.

None that I am aware of... Diamond J has adapter kit to do that. I never used it.

The swingarm is a Robbs Racing... There is a guy on ebay ( smblksuper ) selling some swing arm like robbs but I would advise to stay away I had a friend buy one from him and it took 3 months to get it.

If you use the Diamond J kit just extend your stock swingarm by 2 inches

There is a Dealer in Bakersfield California that sells them for $2500 It would be a long drive but the weather is nice:cool: I did also hear it may drop into the low 80's by the weekend ~ need to bring a jacket ;)

That is on the other side of the country for me.. it would be cheaper to buy one for 3200 here. I am on the east coast.

I wouldnt know where to start with extend the axle at this point.. I dont want to risk my sons safety either. I have a 300ex for parts so I would love to be able to use that setup but it amy be cheaper to start with another ATV.. And just go with spacers for now.

Did you make the sprocket spacer so you could continue to use trx90 sprockets or to get the alignment rite? I designed that set up to use a 450R sprocket hub on the 300ex axle. If you put on the 450R sprocket hub the alignment is perfect.

EVERYONE

Please DO NOT confuse my stuff with that of the scammer on Ebay. He is IMO the lowest of low. At first copying my stuff and trying to sell it as mine. He is a low life POS. I have heard SEVERAL horor stories from people who thought they were buying my parts.

86trizinger

I have a VERY nice used Apex 90 I would make you a great deal on. This was my youngest sons own quad. Let me know if your interested.

I purchased this atv used and took it apart cleaned it up and replaced alot of stuff. I will have to try the 450 hub. The old stuff did not have a spacer and I never looked at the chain alignment just assumed it was always off... The biggest problem I ran into was the front end, I had one of my guys take it apart and then he broke his back the next weekend (riding of course) so I had to put the puzzle back together myself.

I know a guy that went to that guy on Ebay and it took him 3 months to get it... he still has not figured out how to put it together.

Hey Robb the dirt bag is not to be confused with
