View Full Version : IRS Outlaw- best of both worlds?

I am currently running an 02 400 ex with some engine work that performs flawlessly. However, I would like to have more guts (450R) when hill climbing and more ground clearance (500 IRS) for when riding on rocks.
Is the Outlaw with IRS a good blend of the two?

I love the 450R and its raw wheel pulling power and suspension, yet would still be banging the skid plates to death on the rocky parts as I am on my EX.
Granted my EX does have a nice power range, but the R seems to have better grunt, better suspension, and the IRS has the 8+ inches of ride heighth.
Thoughts?

If I did buy an Outlaw it would 08 or older. I do not like the new KTM appearance of the Outlaw.

I have rode a 400ex, it was a nice bike, then I rode a Outlaw525 IRS. If I were you, get a 2007, 2008, 2009 outlaw IRS you will fall in love with the IRS and the power it has.

I almost got a 450 BUT after riding the outlaw it doesn't offer the power I wanted.

With the IRS you will get stuck less and be able to blast through rocky stuff, just ask the guys I race with. They are used to me getting the holeshot and pulling away from them in the creek sections. it is a good choice and the reviews do not give it justice IMO.

I'm just reading through these.
I got the 06 with the 500. Big difference?
I know the 525 is not quite 525 c.c. so is there really much of a difference btween the 2?

Yes there is a very noticeable difference between the fuji 500 your outlaw has compared to the 525 ktm motor. Not only does the ktm motor have more power but it is also much lighter, the weight difference between the 500 and 525 outlaws is all motor.

Not saying the 500 outlaw is bad, its an excellent machine but the 525 powered outlaw is definitely more powerful, especially as the rpms rise.

On the plus side most guys who buy used outlaws look for the 525 so there are great deals on 500 outlaws out there.
