Alright folks,
I am trying to plan a fall trail ride that covers some long stretches with no places to get fuel. How many miles do you get on 1 standard tank of gas? This would be under light throttle cruising. It would really help me plan out my route if I had a idea. I would really like to hear from guys with the trail tech as well.
Thanks!

if you can be in a really high gear barley on the gas moving you could be going for at least 6 hours on a tank on a stock 400ex. Heavy riding with the mods I have probally 4-5 hours before i have to turn it to reserve. I dont know how many miles that would be but I assume a lot.

We were just having this discussion last weekend. We ran 78 miles down hill, up hill, fast fire roads, and tight technical trails. When we got back to camp, I had about a quarter gallon of fuel left. Hadn't gotten to reserve yet, but it was close.

Well, when I went to ashland the one time, I had the trailtech with me.

Its been a while so I may be a little off.

We covered 33miles the one time with mixed riding. Hard throttle and putting. I think when I went to top it off it was maybe 2in from the bottom of the hole where you put the gas in. And the same when we were done.

So im estimating about 4in down in the tank every 33 miles?

Dont take my word. I need to go again sometime to get a more accurate guess.

i get about a 2 1/2 hrs on a full tank of gas when im running it hard.. but when we go night riding and we are just goin easy i can ride for awhile. it sucks on gas but then again i have a hard time staying out of the throttle..

since my engine has gotten old and tired...i dont do as well on gas. i can go for 31/2-4 hrs on a tank...and that is pounding on the bike. i used to be able to do nearly six hrs with a completely stock machine on a brand new engine...and that was riding fairly hard as well.

5-6 hour mixed riding, alot of it was on the throttle pretty hard.

I find that the easier you take it, the better gasmileage but lets face the facts-we all like to go fast.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

I can go for 100KM just like justin1022 said. Only mods are Curtis Sparks full exhaust and timing advance key, with K&N.

I run it hard, and I've done it more than once.

mine is totally stock...but i can go ride as long as i can stand it and never run out of gas....i'd say a good estimate is like 8hrs of riding maybe....i dunno...i can't ride that long anymore...i'm tired after about 4 or 5 hrs

Thanks folks! This is just what I needed! The only strech I was worried about is almost 60 miles round trip without gas. Mostly groomed smooth trails that you can cruise in 5th. I should be ok. I ordered a sparks key last weekend and wont get it until Friday so I wont have time to get it in before the trip. I really wanted to try it out. Oh well!!!

You are going to see a world of differance with the Sparks key. Much better responce on the throttle. The front wheels will come right up. the ex is already a wheely machine and even more with the key.

I am excited to get the sparks key in. I have heard nothing but good things about it. It kills me waiting for packages in transit from california. Takes FOREVER!!
