Can anyone help?
I just replaced my stock basket and pressure plate with Hinson.
The instructions on the pressure plate call for a honda upgrade kit.

I went to the dealer and it is basically a new stock basket, the push rod, a flat washer and 2 bearings.

Is this stuff really necessary?
Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend it while your in there but just go to service honda and look at a 89 clutch and order the parts you only need.

If you order the 85-88 pressure plate, they send you a 89 update kit. Its 06220-hb9-305. In the update kit there is a pressure plate, rod, bearing and thin washer. Beware there is a peice that isn't listed in the parts, if you order the individual peices. I seen the part # for that on *-central.net, its pinned up. The * = r. There is a thin washer thats not in the parts fiche, but the update kit comes with it.

if you already have an aftermarket basket you dont need another, basically what they are saying is they want you to go with the 89 clutch update that has already been mention here about the rod and new beargings and washer. You can sometimes find these on ebay or you can go through the dealer or service honda.

Let me see if I got this right.

If I use the Hinson Basket and Pressure Plate, I don't need the entire honda kit. All I need is the rod, washer, and the 2 bearings?

I've got all the parts you need. the bearing, hat, and pushrod, let me know if you want it.

I've got about 2 1/2 250R bottom ends in my garage.

Guys,
I bought the 89 upgrade kit and installed in the bike.

I noticed the pressure plate does not make contact with the clutch. There seems to be a gap between the pressure plate the clutch.

After I read the Honda Repair Manual, I could see the differences between the 85 Three Wheeler/86 quad, the 87-88 quad, and the 89 quads. I wasn't sure what motor I had cause it came with the quad when I bought it, so I proceeded to dissasemble the entire clutch assembly to determine which year of motor I have. It turns out I have an 85 trike motor.

Would this be the reason why there is that gap between the pressure plate and the clutch fibers? It just doesn't feel like the clutch would engage once I put it together and run it.

I did replace it with the new one. But when I noticed the problem, I compared both of them and they both are about 24mm long.

I am going to my dealer after work to see if they have just the rod so I can compare it. I think I got the wrong rod in the kit.

Thanks for the help.
