bad bad tranny

08 ltr 8 months old rode or raced every weekend changed oil after every ride with rotella today heard a poping sound like chain noise checked and adjusted went back out and still noise it is only in 3rd gear what is the likely problem

well the same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago, and my 3rd gear was starting to wear which caused this noise to occur. you dont want to delay on replacing it or checking your tranny. this kind of problem is common on all years of ltr's, and a gear aint very expensive, only like $60. hope this helps

08 LTRs loose 3rd gear, just not a good design. The 06/07s don't have this problem they just jump gear once the shift forks get worn which doesn't take long either. Don't ride it anymore before you get it fixed or you'll explode the tranny and that is VERY expensive. Check with ATP Racing they are making billet gears to fix the problem in the 08s.

That sux to hear. I have an '08 and it's been great for me so far....I just did an oil change and it was clean. I will say that I did have Mike @ ATP do the REM polish/treatment to my gears when I got the quad new though. Mike said it'll make them last 2 times as long so I'm looking into the billet 3rd gear set Mike can have made......I also run Bel-Ray THUMPER 20-50 if that makes any difference.

06 and 07 does have this problem I busted 2nd3rd4th and 5th gears 2 forks and the drum

found the problem 3rd on the main shaft had 2 teeth missing and a washer broke into many pieces. over nighted parts and got it ready just in time for my race today. going to go through it this winter not going to pay 500.00 for two gears from atp (very over priced) what have you guys done has shot penning and under cut helped

heres something funny the shop i go to has rebuilt over 9 trannys due to busted 3rd and 4th all years 06,7,and 8

like i said...there are lemons out there, and there are some people that cant ride lol

I've got 42 races on my 06 in the 07 seasons, and atleast 20 in 06...not to mention all the training I did on it...and it still runs strong as can be, never even did the shifter mod.

Some are built bullet proof, some arent...

ask your dealer how many yamahaha and hondas they've had to do

The quads are getting beat on hard and 3rd and 4th gears take the most abuse, not hard to figure out. Some get lucky or ride real smooth and some don't which are you? Rebuilt or not will tell the tale.

yea mines been rebuilt, Im not perfect I didnt claim to be, My first ever on a quad was may 07 and im allready running local pro and b class national ,everyone can allways be better
