We recently bought a 2001 Kawasaki Lakota Sport. The person we bought it from said it used to run and now it doesnt, he had someone take a look at it and they said they believe it was out of time. It will crank and crank, it's getting gas, has a new plug and is firing, but will not start. It doesnt even act like it wants to. Can someone tell me if this sounds like timing? If so how do you put one back in time? I looked for ATV manuals or diagrams online but was unable to find anything on this. Please help before my boyfriend throws it over a hill somewhere........!

A good place to start would be to check that the valves are in adjustment. Next step would be a compression test.

Try these:

Definatley check the valves, roll it over to TDC and check them also check to see if the cam sprocket marks line up. If not then it is out of time. These motors are very very reliable I havent had any problems with mine except the for the occasional valve adjustment.
