I really don't know which stage cam would be best for mx. I was thinking about it too. Stage 1 would be good for holeshots, and going around turns, and after jumps. Stage 2 would be good for straitaways, before jumps, anywhere you can hold the throttle all the way open. But since it would be hard to hold the throttle open around turns and stuff I would think stage 1 would be better. I just bought a stage 1 hotcam because I don't rev the **** out of my bike a lot. I stay at like half to 3/4, and thats where it will put midrange power.

i have a stage 2 hotcam in my 04 450r and i love it.. you can always gear down a tooth on your front if you want more pull. all the guys with hondas that i race with have the stage 2 hotcam and they all love it.. just my opinion, good luck i'm sure you'll find the one you want..

i have ran both stage 1 and stage 2. and i prefer the stage 2. the stage one has a little bit of gain over stock. stage 2 hits just about as hard as the stage 1 down low, but pulls really hard up top. just my opinion

stage two. its a better "all around" cam.

you can buy them from places like rockymountain and motosport for under $200.

You said you dont like to ride at full throttle so I'd say the stage 2 hc is fine.

I love being on or near the limiter, but I run the 04 hrc. Most say its not great for mx. Its fine if you like to keep the r's up. I have had the hrc from day one. I rode a few stock and with hc's in them
I love mine. The hc works well with a full pipe and filter.

Not sure if you had planned on changing piston as well. Thats something I want to try next. was thinking of putting one of chad's 15:1 pistons in when I change out my crank.

Whatever you choose for a cam it'll be better than stock and it'll only take you a minute or 2 of riding to learn the difference.

For the money, a 2006-08 HRC cam (which is the same as a 2004-06 CRF cam) will provide a lot of low-end and still good midrange to top-end as well. Otherwise, a Stage 2 Hot Cam is a great "all around" cam from what I hear.

If you are being quoted $300, I would have to guess it is a Web Cam and they are including the shortened valve guides and altered cam gears as well that are required with their cams. They also recommend a higher compression piston. Just FYI.
