can chain links be added

ok my buddy needs a few links of my chain becouse he bought a new 14t sprocket can he take links off my chain and add it to his or does he need a new chain with extra links??

If you wanted a cheap fast fix you could just add master links until its long enough. But the best way to go would be to order a new chain that is longer.
