are there any damping and rebound adjustments on the shock itself, besides the spring collars?

ok so i found an adjustment screw.. is this rebound or compression?

compression is the top screw, rebound is the bottom screw

oh, are they one inside another... one being the screw you adjust with a flathead screwdriver, the other being around that screw and adjusted with a wrench?

no, one screw at the top of the shock and one at the bottom

Here's the 3 adjusters on the stock 400ex shock.

Low speed compression adjuster (From what I've read.)

What exactly do the low speed and rebound adjusters do?

Low speed I'm thinking would be for small bumps and whoops. Rebound is how fast it gets pushed back after being compressed. I've never screwed with the rebound adj. on this so I'm not quite sure.

oh ok. I was startin to mess with the adjustments on my bike to see what they would do. I jump a little bit but nothing huge. Would it be good to have the rebound all the way up?

I don't think it would be. The reason being if you rode any kind of rough bumpy trails it might have a tendency to kick and buck.

yeah that makes sense. Thanks

What do the H and S stand for on the low speed compression?

Also what does the preload do?

H means hard which means it won't compress as much on the little bumps. S means soft, which means a softer ride.
Preload you use to raise and lower your ride height. And even though I've read not to use it this way you can crank it down to help it bottom out less on jumps.

Do dual rate front shocks usually have a preload adjustment also? I have dual rate TCS with rezzies and im not sure if they have preload adjustments or not, but i would love to adjust my ride height up a bit for trails.

The rebound adjustment screw is on the opposite side of the pictured screw on the bottom of the shock. It is a slotted screw like the top, but much smaller than the one in this picture. Just pointing that out so someone doesn't try to crank on the screw in this picture lol. Not sure exactly what the screw in the picture is for.

Oh yeah thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even know there was two screws on the bottom.
Here's the actual rebound adj.
