i think in the owners Manuel it tells you to run nothing below 92 octane not positive though

The manual for my TRX400 says to use 91 octane. So I do. My rancher says to use 87 octane. So I do. Seems pretty simple.

whenever i can get 91 i put it in it but i live in the country and some places dont even sell 91. i dont think it would matter that much but i do like to put 91 in it when i can.

It does matter big time!

I didnt read the manual with mine lol

I ran 87 and it was sluggish not as much throttle response and sounded crappy.

I put 92 in it (as my cousins 450R sais right on the throttle to run 92) and it gave me better throttle response it ran smoother and it sounded great.

You will see a giant difference running the higher octane threw the engine believe me. Now that I know this my quad never touches nothing less that 92 octane.

i have ran 91 in mine thats what manual says but have also run 87 ive noticed little bit of a difference. i wasnt running 91 because of gas prices i already was spending enough with diesel prices but now that gas has gone down i will start to run 91 again

lower than 91 and you feel a bog. if you have been running 87 and switch to 93 or something you will feel it. The engine runs smoother and is more peppy feeling

The manual says 91 octane, I pump 93 in mine because you don't know how much 87 is still in the hose from the car that just filled up in front of you...

I agree it makes a big difference. Everyone once in awhile I add a splash of race gas in my girlfriends's quad. It starts easier, better throttle response and runs cooler.

Once you start using higher octane fuel you wont go back.

hmmm.

For some reason I thought my 400ex felt a little slower than the other one I rode, with me having the better exhaust.

I also bog a little sometimes on hills.

But I run 87.. Should I switch to 93? Didn't really think it would be a big deal..

No, I did.

Put a 42 pilot and 155 main. It starts so much easier! I did this a while back actually.
Could still probably use the needle adjusted, but definitely better than it was.

I never thought it made a difference since these motors have very low compression, so I ran 87 for the first few weeks after I bought my quad brand new. Then one day I put some 93 in it for the hell of it and WOW, I really noticed a difference. Mostly that throttle was much better and much crisper, even sounded better.

So yea, it makes a difference!
