Just ordered pair of used 450r brakes for the 400, it came with the calipers and stainless steel lines. Do they bolt right on ready to go?

I am doing the same swap and i think you need 450r spindles i heard that 06-07 spindles work best and try to get the hubs from the 06-07 450r. they make the 400ex 1 inch wider i got my hubs and spindles on ebay for cheap.

One of the best mods i did to my old race bike. You will need the hubs, spindles, and calipers from the 450. I would make sure you use all the same year so you know everything will work 100%. I got everything off e-bay for about $200. For this setup to realy shine you should try to use the 450 master cyclinder and hoses as well.

get the master cylinder too. The 400EX master cylinder was not designed to work with dual piston calipers. It will make your brakes feel week. I think there was some on e-bay.

what about the rear brakes. I am thinking about doing and 450r rear brake swap on my 400. I know I need the caliper and hub/rotor and the brake stay from a 450,but what about the master cyl. Do you guys think is worth the money to do the swap?

Do it if you think you can fabricate it. My 450r's brakes are a lot better than my 400ex's ever were. They're more responsive.

So there is a big difference in the two. Im still using the 400ex one and braking power still feels the same as the single piston calipers until I put a death grip on the brake lever.:ermm:
Also if you use the 04-05 spindles with the stock a-arms your camber will be like mine right here:o >http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/orderpage.aspx?pi=03VE00VH040076&po=76

The 06-up spindles are nearly identical to the 400ex spindles. The stock 400ex hubs will work fine with the 06-up R spindles.

The 04-05 R spindles are drastically different than the EX and 06-up spindles and will NOT work with the EX hubs, the R hubs must be used. Also, don't up 04-05 R spindles unless you have adjustable upper A-Arms.

I'm going to use 06-up spindles in my swap, just need the left spindle and I'm set.

When I did mine, I used 05 for everything. I had stock a-arms, it worked out great. My lap time picked up quiet a bit as I was able to brake later going into turns. I don't think that the rears are worth the hasle of trying to swap them over. I never had an issue with the rear, just the fronts.

Hey what front wheels are you running with the 05 setup and how much clearence do you have from the outer tie rod end to the wheel lip? Mine touches at full lock, but that might be because Im running 0 toe.:ermm:

Yeah my brakes came in, not sure what year they are though at the moment have to check my receipt. I guess i need spindles now, although i dont have the master cylinder, ill try out the 400s and see how that works. I do need a new back brake though or at least some help with what to do, the threads on the inside of the caliper are stripped where the brake line screws in.
