i dont know much but i know 1 thing for sure it makes a hella a diffrence so much more power in my opinion not to sure it it would be good for mx thoe 1st gear just spins basically
but i would highly recomend it
only thing is it seems to be a little easier to stall but thats it
go for a 01 ignition ive been told they are the best

There are quite a few people running the CR ignition, it's a fairly common upgrade.

The CR just has better technology built into it. It has a hotter spark, which creates better combustion and starts much easier. It has a better ignition curve, and the flywheel is much smaller which creates less rotating mass, resulting in quicker acceleration (but also more prone to stalling).

i just posted about this...

this weekend i just installed a cr250 ignition with a fmf dual curve cdi...the throttle response is freaking crisp, it feels like it has a hell of alot more power, definately a good upgrade.

the downside is a smaller flywheel, and no lights

oh it so easy to install 30 min to a hour and ull have it runin wild again
you can just buy the adapter plate frm esr and get the rest from a cr 250

oh yell yeah, it's easy. it bolts right up with the plate. i think it's just easier to get the whole kit from esr. the only thing that was a pain was mounting the coil as the wire is pretty short to the plug...at least on a laegers frame

yea i found the coil wire to be on the short side on my stock frame

pull your stator cover off and look at the flywheel. is it tiny or is it big? is there a plate behind your stator? thats the easiest way.

brandonpeake

so if its big with the plate its the 250 iginition

no the trx flywheel is big and the cr is tiny.

What (if any) wiring differences are there between the 250R CDI and the 2001 CR250 CDI? If I remember correctly, theres a power wire for the stator, and two wires for the pulse generator coming out of the stator cover (i'm not running lights). Can't I just swap a 2001 cdi in place of the old tired unit?

Current wiring config:

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 2001 stator system? I guess I'm being cheap but I already bought a new stator a year ago and dont want to buy another one, an adaptor plate, yada yada. Wilkin you still here? Help me out!!

Thanks,
Keith

I don't know much about the cr250 upgrade but if I were to guess I'd think you'd be missing out on half the improvements. Its my understanding the stator is weak on the trx250r and that's the primary reason for upgrading. The improved spark timing is a side benefit. I could be wrong however.

best of luck,
Derek

Go with Knology Ignition.......
They are better than the CR and you can use your headlights, they sell ignition, coil, plug wire, and plug cap. They sell EVERYTHING you will need for a complete ignition upgrade. Also, it's alot less expensive than the CR ignition.
The knology parts are made specifically for a TRX250r.

the cr250 ignition setup is a no brainer imo.I love how the bike picks up right now, which is perfect for those hills with no run, which is where i ride %80 of the time.It can stall easier at first but its an afterthought once you get used to it.

isn't it possable to run the cr ignition and get a "ricky stator" stator cause im pretty sure they make a stater with lights for the cr

2muchquad

yes, there is a 50w stator i believe for the cr ignition system

Other ATV online parts stores sell their products also. You will need to give them a call.
The BETTER alternative to the CR ignition is the Dyna Tech ignition and the Nology coil and spark plug wire/cap.
This combo gives you better spark, it's tuned for the 250r, and you can still have headlights.
Best thing is....... it's even cheaper than the ESR CR ignition system.
It's really a no-brainer. :)
