400ex rear axle?

I was working on my 99 400ex and noticed that the rear axle was moving side to side about 1/4 inch. does this mean that i need to replace the axle bearings or is there something i can tighten up?

does is rock like a teeter-totter inside the bearing carrier?

are your locknuts tight? Usually if bearings go it will teeter in the carrier (if you grab from behind one hand on each end it will push forward and back) if it slides side to side id check the locknuts
