looking to maaaaybe run some MX races next summer. i've been looking at pics from some of the races in the state and i think i saw ONE 400..

obviously starting out i'll be running C class. assuming i can ride the thing... am i only going to be frustrated surrounded by 450's? not looking to win a points series by any means, but i don't want to be getting lapped by the field, lol. it'd be more for fun than anything.

setup wise i'd be running my 11:1 426, stage 2 cam, slip-on and K&N/pre filter. probably 450R carb and shocks by then too... but stock front end.

if you can ride it you'll do fine.

i was going to race C class mx, but things have changed. i have beaten 450's in practice many times though.

I do!!!! I got 2nd in C class, and won rookie of the year. Mods are in sig. The worst I finished was like 6/12 and everyone was running 450's. They are making me run B class next year. If you have any questions just ask. BTW I'm not sure what is done to the motor, I just put 416 because that's what the guy said when we bought it.

Get a +4 axle. It will help a lot in corners. The 400 is a little tippy with the stock one on a mx track.

It all depends on the rider.

A crappy rider on a faster bike is still a crappy rider.

honestly if your a good rider you can hang with 450s all day. as long as your suspensions up to par

that's kind of what i figured. i tried contacting a guy i found on the website to talk to him about the tracks(s). if it's not wide open straightaways (translation: horsepower game), i'd think i could hang if my suspension is set up right and i can handle the thing. like i said, i am not going to drop coin on wide arms and high-end shocks for this 400.. but 450R shocks are in the plans. i'll have to see what +4 axles go for used.

thanks gentlemen.

I run The Ohio CRA MX circuit, I was in the points chase this year for a while, then I skipped a few races because of money, If your a good rider, you can spank on 450s all day on a modified 400ex no problem. It aint always the bike.

couldnt agree more. Tires make a big difference too. I love the handling of razrs you can slide without catching an edge as easy and flipping and they have good traction. I dont know if anything is as worse as spinning the tires before a jump and you case it lol

Sweet I'm 16 too. LOL I'm really glad I found this one. Bought it with the LSR-Axis front end. I feel that if I would have bought a stock 450r like we were thinking of I would have been held back. The only thing I can add is make sure to get 20"/18" tires.

i'm pretty sure if i had a 450r right now i'd be dead. more power = crazier things to try. lol

im 15 and i was gunna race mx but theres not many for quads around here. so i took up xc instead. but if ur budget allows it get those 450r shocks rebuilt or look for some cheap shocks
i wish i bought a used quad with an aftermarket front end. it wouldve saved me ALOT of money :ermm:

i just started racing my bone stock 400ex about a month ago and have gotten a 4th (finished with a concussion and cant tell you a thing about the day), 9th(my first arenacross), 4th (another arenacross im really happy with my results in that race is mostly 450s) and then last weekend i won my first race!

and all i had was nerfbars and baald razrs but i just ordered a full set of razr mxs and am gonna have my yfz shocks on by next race 2 so hopefully i can do a lot better and this is in C class as well..

I have got fullfight +2 arms and 450r ft shock with triple rates and a lonestar axle. I 've race 2 races this summer and I didn't do to bad. I am running D class but I was passing C class riders on 450s.But I could use some more power. My motor is bone stock, just got a slipon and the carb is jetted really good. I have a buddy thats got a 450r with just arms and an axle and I can stay with him on his practice track until I get whore out. With more motor and some better suspension I think I could run alot faster.

I want to race, i think it would be fun, i think my quad is as modded as it can be, i wont be doing more to it thats for sure, maybe a rear shock. I would love to spank some 450s. Being that i have never raced before what class would i start in? I def. out ride all my friends, so i assume my riding is decent enough for some racing.

i was running the b class with my mildly built 400ex w/ mild suspension..... i made the switch to a full out national race bike. i mean long travel suspension, quad rate elka elites, precision steering stabilizer, fasst flexx bars... etc.

want to know the truth??

i have never topped the bike out on a track:p

no need to really.

im ready for this race season to startt
