View Full Version : Ideas for a 300EX Aluminum Airbox

We will be coming out with an aluminum airbox for the 300EX in the near future and would like some input on what features you would like to see in a 300EX airbox. Lid, no lid, electrical inside or not, that sort of thing. All suggestions will be considered. We want to build what you need, not what we think you need.

if you need an airbox i could lend you mine if you pay shipping, i got grounded from it till i get better grades, i think you should leave electrical stuff outside and use the same vent as the 400ex ones u have, and andonize them black

I like the Ram Air idea, and we had something like that on our 400EX for awhile. We have a '98 300EX that we are doing the prototype on. I don't like the way the engine draws air in through the frame tubes (due to it being too restrictive). We'll definitely need to do something different there if we offer a sealed lid on this box.

oh, ok so are yall talking about a whole new airbox or just a lid? if you could you should just make both, a lid that fits on a stock box, and then make the whole kit-and-kaboodle too. KP

Ohhhhh ok. Were both thinking alike. I get ya. Ya i really hope they comeout with one. I've got the precharger so im not too worred about dirt and stuff. I need the air though. I guess real ram air is like a compressor or somthing in cars and trucks. Super charger! Turbp? Blower?

it may be pointless to have scoops cause the air might not be able to get the box. so you may have to come up with a new design. KP

true

because the body and motor could deflect the air away from the box. hince why they have the air come up through the frame through the rails. KP

I think they ought to come up with an optional inlet tubes to be able to connect crankcase, and carb vent lines. Have a box on the inside with seperate removeable foam filter for the lines, something like the PC-1 vent systems! This is what I did for my custom box that I made out of diamond plate aluminum, it looked trick and works good.

It seems like everyones main concern is getting more air into the box, correct? It looks like we can get the battery into the back of the box but that's it. The wires for the solonoid and voltage regulator would be to short to move them anywhere else and we don't want you guys to have to mess with your wiring just to install an airbox.
If we put the battery in the airbox, it would not allow you to run an aftermarket seat latch because the airbox would have to be longer. Does this create a problem for you?

you cant get ram air on a four wheeler

you can get COLD air but not ram air

yopu can sucj fresh air from the front side or what not, but to have "RAM AIR" you need to reach speeds of 80mph ++++ to actually positively pressurize the airbox

fresh air or cold air induction is something else

i think you should just make a sealed airbox with no scoops, a battery inside, and a lid.

if you put scoops in it then water can get in

If you guys race under a sactioning body you need to look at their rules really close. In GNCC racing that we do you CANNOT have a forced air intake. Trail riders its fine but hard to tune. Just a little thought on the subject.

Since everyone was talking about putting scoops on the air box I figured I would add a pic of my custom air box lid I did.

Ps
Don't pay any attintion to the dirty quad.

i think you should make it where it could be sealed and leave the electric outside. i would also make it smaller than the stock one. just big enough for the filter and not have all the extra.

While its snowinghere in west PA you guys will get to see a review on a real airbox that has alot of performance built in to it.We strive to gain as much power out of these small engines as possible. If it were me , I would NOT want my electrics near my filter. Ever roll a quad and have feul leak through the filter??? Ever have a battery arc on a frame rail???Just a little somethin' to think about...Just watch for the test!!!!

why do people think you can get ram air on an airbox, there is pretty much no way. And i think the best way to get good air iintake outta the box is to put a hole in the box and route a tube somwhere so that it will get air to the tube, like right under the front hood, just take ideas form the 400ex's stock airbox, it has one tube that goes up by one side of te gas tank.

An aluminum airbox is what I've been looking for with battery inside and removeable lid.

You guys need to let your brains function a bit ...... Remember the last time you cleaned your air filter??? If you ran in mud or dust, your filter was the dirtiest where the "STOCK " air tube comes in.......RITE??We get rid of it and bring a whole new thought process to building the XC box,but that should be covered by the test these guys are gonna run on it

i have a few ideas. route 1: take runs hose or hoses(2) and run them trough the frame from the airbox to the front under the hood. make something sporty so noone knows what it is. route2: run it lower through the frame and have it go next to bumper. sporty look again do no one knows. route 3: have it run up by the tank under the light. just throwing some ideas.
