The 400X is a different machine. There are two different machines on Honda's website. The 400X lists for more than the EX.

if you look, the 400ex that they have listed on their page only goes to the 2008 model yr, and the 400x is the 2009. same machine, different name. no more 400ex after 2008

BOLD NEW GRAPHICS........BOLD NEW NAME...SAME OLE CRAP
actually all honda needs to do to it is new front shocks and the xr400 cam and thinner gasket. escentially have the xr400 motor in there. What they have now is almost perfect it just needs more fine tuning to keep up. plastic change would be nice too

How odd. Anybody hear any rumors (or better yet, any articles or interviews) on the REASONS for this change?
Honda had the 450R, then came with the 450ER. Although I never actually saw the reason in print, it just seemed natural that the "E" designated "electric start".
The 250X was not electric start, but it's successor the 300EX was. The 400EX was electric start, the 250EX was electric start. The 250r never had an "E", and was never electric start.
So why the change all the sudden?

Great News for Honda Lovers! Rumor has it that the 2013 400x, or ex, or xe, or whatever they happen to be calling it by then, is going to be recieving a major overhaul in the graphics department. You didnt here this from me, but I have been told that this thing might even come from the factory with the pre-load adjusters set on a different notch.

Are you saying that it will be kick start? If you are then that would mean all the "x's" would be kick? I cant really see a 250ex being kick start.:huh

I dont think thats what he was saying. On the first page someone posted the specs of a 09 400x. It plainly says electric start. I think he is refering to all the sport quads that got electric start had an "E" in the name and now the 400X still has electric start but no "E".
