I am looking at buying a new Raptor 700 I want to ride it on some pretty rocky and ruff trails. I will also take it to the dunes and some easy fast type trails. Has anyone tried using 22 inch tire on back of a 700. I was thinking 22 with good skids and nerfs would help a bunch in the rocks. If I go to 22s will I need to change sprockets to make up for the bigger tires. I have had several utility quads and a Kawasaki KFX V-force. I don't really have any experience with the lighter sport quads like the Raptor or the new 450s. I have seen sport quads make it up the tough trails with experienced riders. I just want something lighter and faster for when it smooths out on the fire roads and that I can have more fun on at the Dunes. I was looking at 450s but thought the 700 would require less clutch slipping in the ruff stuff and would lug down better. What else needs to be done to make a Raptor really trail worthy.

I ran 22s on mine in a few really muddy/rutted races w/ same gearing as w/ 20's. W/ all the torque the rappy has you wont have a problem. IT will be like pitting a 15t front sprocket on little more topend.

You won't have any trouble with 22s on a Raptor. I am currently running 25s front and rear on my '07 Raptor that I XC race in some pretty tough stuff. I like the way the taller tires roll over and through rocks, holes and ledges. Makes the comforable Raptor even more comfortable. Only drawback is that my tires don't slide as good as I'd like. You end up driving through most corners instead of sliding them.

I am still kind of up in the air. I want the sporty lighter ride but. I am concerned on the long really rocky sections. I am considering a Renegade but they are a lot of money and still heavy. The Raptor has lots going for it. Running 25's is an interesting idea. I had not thought about that. I have a couple sets of 25 inch tires. That would really lift it up in the rocks for those ugly trails. Do you have any pictures set up that way.

You should look into the 700XX.

I was looking at the 700XX but everything says it handles real bad and needs at least new shocks and probably different tires. Doesn't slid well and just haven't heard much positive about them.

That Raptor doesn't look too bad set up like that. I could see having a set of tires like that for the bad trails and a more normal set up for for playing when it isn't so ruff. Did you need to swap sprockets for the bigger tires.

Yes, I run a 15T front sprocket with my 20" tires and switch to a 13T front sprocket when I run the 25" tires.

I haven't read this myself yet, but QUAD magazine rated it very good for just this type of terrain. I searched their site but couldn't find it. If I find it in the magazine section (and it's true) I'll paraphrase for you.
