What size carbs will the air fillter can fit and are you making them or someone else. How much water does it keep out better than a milk jug. email me hnichols@fairpoint.net. thanks Brad

We have ran the 28-30 mm large throat Koso carbs with UNI's and an outer wear, with no difference whether the can is on or off, so we just leave them on all the time. This design keeps all water and mud from the left front tire out of the air cleaner. If it is a real bad, soupy mud race... I install a sheild on the right hand side of the frame that blocks water from coming across the top of the motor and back into the can.
I custom build these for every quad I've built. The secret is that every quad is different in what size and type of carb, intake, reed spacer, air filter and the small fact that all of my quads have offset motors. You have to make sure that the is atleast 1/2" of space all the way around the filter. And then the shock mount tab is a must to keep it from vibrating itself into pieces.
So the problem with me building these to sell, is that I would need your bike here to build it correctly.

The rear motor mounts http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc52/X-Stream_Composites/Loomis%20Racing/IMG_0730.jpg
work in conjunction with the lower http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc52/X-Stream_Composites/Loomis%20Racing/IMG_0732.jpg
and upper motor mounts http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc52/X-Stream_Composites/Loomis%20Racing/IMG_0731.jpg
to relocate the motor 1 1/8" to the right of the quad. The 2 stroke CVT mini quad, no mater what brand, is heavier on the leftside than the right. The problem is, they cosmetically centered the motor using the spark plug as the centering point. The problem is, the left hand side CVT, is the heavier part. By offsetting the motor to the right, it balances out the weight of the quad, makes the spark plug accessable between the steering stem and frame, pulls the carb out of the line of roost alittle more, offsets the swingarmhttp://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc52/X-Stream_Composites/Loomis%20Racing/IMG_0773.jpg
to the long side of the pivot tube to make bending it ALOT tougher to do and centers up the rear carrier with the frame.http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc52/X-Stream_Composites/IMG_0401.jpg
This is important beacause this now widens the rigt side axle 1 1/8" and means you run a 2 1/2" spacer on the right tire to pefectly center the rear tires to the front. I then was able to lower the rear of the motor to put the drive sprocket into a better location that eliminates the standard loose/tight/loose chain slack, into loose to tight.

I see that the left rear mount is lower but the right side looks like its the same only offset towards the right. Did you drill the mounting bracket on the right side. How far did you drop the motor. Does this help with chain slack when compressing the rear shock. We get a lot of slack when my boy lands jumps. Also did you make the swing arm yourself.

Yes, I unbolted the lower right hand mount bolt and rotated the bracket up and re- drilled the hole closer to the end. This allows me to have my motor mounts in two different locations wich helps bind the mount locations into a stronger position. It also means that the right side mount, that takes the most abuse, is still in a stock fixed position.
This will help the chain slack in that the chain gets tighter only as you compress the suspension. It gets looser as you extend the suspension. I also mount a roller wheel to the steel plate, to take up chain slack in the relaxed position. There is only 1/4" chain slack difference throughout the total cycling of the suspension.
Yes, I make all of my own stuff. I am working with Dave Carter on some new products that he is going to start selling. I want to focus on what needs to be fixed, more than what everyone else has.

Thanks for helping everyone out Brad!
I've known Brad for a few years and he's always been willing to help. Brad was the one that found the INA bearing and shared with the rest of us. He also turned us all onto the method of reinforcing the cases.
I wish there were more guys like you Brad!

Anytime you want to swing by, you are always welcome!
I love to build things better... but I am probably just a little to much of a perfectionist, although my wife has another name for it, for my own good.
Nichols Atvs, I will get better pictures and photo the templates I use with scales on them for you.
Shane, thanx for the compliment... but remember, I heard of you long before I ever talked to you. So if I am in that helper boat... then you can have the seat next to me!
My newest project is a CR85 shoehorned into a dual A-arm DRR.

The cans work great but its like he said everyone is just a little bit different due to lots of little things like reed spacers, intakes, carbs, etc.... Brad has helped us out a ton with my kids and there quads. He just helped Matt out with some stuff on his cobra that will be a life safer, Justin with his 450, but most of all he is a master at RED LICORICE with my 2 boys!!!!

Yes, this is Ozzy's shifter that I built right after I finished fabricating his new race quad that Troy is painting right now. It should end up right around 180 lbs. I can't wait to get it together for Ozzy to ride. It has the newest and best of everything that I know.

Hopefully none of that should happen with his new race bike. I believe his last year bike, was just a stock frame without gussets. I never had a chance to work on that bike.

Thanx, it should hold up to most riding. But it is really built for the sand. Troy cut the frame up pretty bad before I got it, so I don't know. Both bottom frame rails had to be cut out and were replaced with sleeved .095 chromemoly. In 3 years, none of my frames have been busted... so we will see. The trick to gusseting is letting the frame twist, so it doesn't build a stress point.

Brad are you interested in making me some of them brackets to lower the rear of the engine and to raise the front. What you did really makes a lot of sense. Would this work with out moving the motor to the right as far as the chain slack issue. Thanks Joe

Joe,
I have done this to quite a few minis, and unfortunately not one of them can be interchanged. Everything I build is a one off custom piece, because I don't want to have to do it again. I have some basic pieces that I produce a few at a time so that it shortens the time for me to move the motor, and do other things, when I am building a mini.
If you are still willing to be a guinea pig, we might be able to do something. I would be willing to walk you through it to get it right, because I am afraid that anything that I build for you might not fit perfectly.
Thanx for the compliment!

Hey Brad...
Eric here, Ze'vyers dad. I just got back from a 7 month deployment...Sucked but it just makes home that much better. Do you have any more of those airfilter cans. They guy I sold my predator is having the hardest time getting it to run using teh old trick of milk carton, 2 liter bottle and so on. They have had nothing but problem since I sold it and since I am back I want to help them out to get the kid back on the track where he belongs.
Keep us updated on the DRR. I am going to be selling Ze'vyers JB CR85 frame/subframe if you are interested. If I remember you bought Cody's old one. Just let me know....
Hope to see you at the track again soon...

Eric,
Good to have you back!!!
I only have one air can left and am needing to send it to North Carolina to a gentleman that bought a quad from me. I do have some of the pieces left over, but would need the quad inorder to fit it correctly.
I just built a frame jig, and am going to start making a couple shifters. I spent about a month getting the geometry right on this one. I have to many spare parts to just let them sit on a shelf.

Hey guys.... Just got back from the sand (again) and my daughter is in tears over the fact that she can't go where she wants to with her DRX2 70. She loves it, and it does everything she has ever asked of it, except climb the big dunes (Sand Mt. Nevada, 600 ft vertical rise).
I am in Boise ID, and am now in need of a shifter upgrade for her. What do I need to do to get in on this?
I know I am not known here, but I do know the Lugan's, and live near them. Great folks who turned me onto this forum.
Thanks!!! James
