I think I am going to get one.

My problem is the dealers wont let me ride either one, or even start one.

I want to beat the power and response of my 07 yfz 450.
Will the 505 be as quick reving? faster?

I previously thought i wanted the Can am 450 until I rode one and it felt more like my brothers Polaris Outlaw 500.

I definately want it to be better than my yfz.

So if anyone has ridden the two could try to compare them.

The 505 seems like it would be the perfect bike.

The 505 will be a big step up from your yfz and the 450 will be alot nicer as well. It depends what your looking to do with it. If your going to race production get the 450, and you can always put the 505 cylinder and piston on it.

Once you ride KTM, there is no turning back. I found this out on bikes!!!!!!!! Now I am a proud KTM owner and have an SX on the way to accompany my 08 KTM in the shop. :)

There will be presentation and test days by the end of this month i think. If you could go to one you could ride them both ;)

Go 505 then. The SX motor is that kind of engine that doesn't give that awesome kick but once you go side by side with the competition, you see you are the fastest!
It's very smooth, it has an awesome powerband. You can go around a track using all gears or using only 4th and you don't loose much time

There is no perfect quad for sure but this KTM SX it's the closest you can go these days

Very good explanation. In my experience with the KTM SX dual cam motors, the bike has the power of the 4 stroke but the feel of a two stroke. Constant pulling, but smooth smooth delivery. I cannot wait to build this thing!

Any exhausts out yet? I'm trying to pre-order all of the parts so I can get this thing rockin' asap!

When and where will this occur? I would love to test ride one to see for myself if it's worth the price. I realize it is on paper but want to feel it for myself.

I don't have details, only heard someone from a shop saying there will be test days by the end of the month...

Got a YFZ450 too and am batting the same thing around. Not sure I am sold on DS aluminum frame since I heard pro’s cracked them last season and EFI. Yam has an 09 aluminum frame. May help with weight like 18lbs to the KTM but once you crack aluminum it’s weld joints are weak. EFI hard for the average mechanic to work and troubleshoot, the carb on the KTM and a two curve CDI imo is just as good if your not the pc type more reliable and easier to work on. I heard the KTM motor is a powerhouse stock just ready to be unlocked with mod’s.

Question is can you justify spending $2,300 more for the KTM. I’d say yes since maintenance cost on the frame and EFI alone will eat that up in no time and the KTM has more race ready features and looks easier to work on.

Can you go back from a 505 to a 450 if you ever wanted to race production is the question? I would think the cylinder bolt pattern is the same on either bike?

The 505 is the same motor as the 450 just a different bore. So if you get a 450 and want more just buy the 505 piston and cylinder and bolt it on. You could go the other way also if you wanted to go from 505 to 450.
These things are super strong motors, much stronger than any other stock motor out there. Both bikes pump out around 53hp stock with the 505 making more bottom end. You'd have to sink at least $1200-1500 into a YFZ, LTR, TRX etc to get those numbers.
Oh and the KTM has a chromoly (sp?) frame which is what after market frames are made of, which means it's gonna take years of abuse with no problems. And actually weighs less than the steel most frames are made of these days, and there is no need for adding weight with gussets.
The 09 YFZ has a cast aluminum frame that is bolted together, which means no welds so if should be pretty strong too.
KTMs are not a stock bike, they really are a race ready machine.

the rod is different and the gudgeon pin larger onthe 505 so it's not a bolt on deal 450 to 505................

the 505 is one fast engine, easliy the fastest product quad out there.................

forget alloy frames........... it's just all marketing BS.....

the EFI Yamaha is heavier than the KTM with lower quality parts........... add a chromoloy swingarm , decent axle and adjustable A arms to the yam and the weight will be even worse............

450 - 59hp@crank
505 - 63hp@crank

Both motors come at over 50hp at wheels in stock trim. The 505 has a little bit more of course.

Don't know about tq...
