Me and my buddy have been debating on a set of nerf bars. Which do you guys think would be a better way to go. Go with the pro armor with heel guards, or the AC's?

to me, it is personal preference. pro armor is a great company, and makes great stuff. on the other hand, AC is cheaper. and the pro armor is most likely going to be an easier installation. I would of went with pro armor, but AC was a lot cheaper. They are great nerfs for the money.

Agreed. Preference takes the cake on this one, but I love my Pro Armor Nerfs/ with Heel Guards, these bolt right to the stock pegs and I think they look good

F the cheap ones.....go the distance and get the Fat Pegs....you remove entire old pegs, and bolt directly to frame....like standing on pillows....and your feet will NOT slip off the pegs....trust me....they are so sharp you could cut yourself on them!

Bets set of nerfs ever....would never buy anything else! Unless it was equivilant...which right now there isn't one...and don't buy those junker Tusk nerfs

I take my IMS/Roll setup over anything on the makert. Comes with a hefy price but quality and costomer serivce backs you up 100%

Those IMS nerfs are pretty frickin' nice, but I have to say I like the way my Pro Armors taper in and go farther forward than a lot of the other nerfs I see.

whick also means you go through the soles of boots really quick lol. They are nice but I like the IMS-ROLL and AC Racing type pegs better. Sharp to keep you planted but they dont tear up your boots that bad. I have the same as RaginRedneck and I love them. They are sturdy and hold up well. You can use different pegs with them. They weigh less than fatpegs and keep the debris off a little better.

here are my AC's. i dont have a good pic of just them, just a shot of my quad with them. they are the AC pro pegs, with the heel guards and such. great nerfs for the price.

My vote goes to Pro Armor. I have been very happy with my Pro-Peg nerfs with heel guards. They fit well, feel good, and hold up well. The only modification I made was to trim the bottom of the rear fenders so they wouldn't hit the top of the heel guard.

I hear too many mixed opinions about AC, especially in regards to their fitment and installation.

Here's a pic ...

with the mixed opinions, here is why. They are cheap nerf with the heel guards and pro pegs. that is why people like them. as for installation, this can be a PITA, but once you get them on, they are great to use. It took me, my bro( who has installed some before), and another friend about 20 to fully install. it required a hammer, and 2 ratchet straps, along with the needed tools for the bolts.

if you have time and tools, and a friend or two, i would go with AC. if you have the money, and want an easy installation, go with Pro Armor.

I went for a set of Moose racing nerfs with the heel guards. No issues or complaints so far and they mounted quick and look great. Also function great with the stock pegs.

I would never say Pro Armors are the best.
I'll go out on a limb here and say I don't like the Pro Armors. I love the fat peg and the shape, but that's about it. Mine both cracked twice and they don't come off or fit that good. The professional welder we had weld them said he never seen metal that cheap before. If I had the money a full IMS set would be the way-to-go.

My "junker Tusks" are holding up just fine...

Out of all of them I would go with Pro Armor Fat Peg Nerfs. I will say the IMS Pegs and Heel Guards are nice but the IMS Nerfs leave a little to be desired by the way they mount to the frame up front. All the others use a motor mount or like the Pro Armors use the a-arm mount and the IMS's use U-Bolts around the frame.

My Stepsons 300EX has IMS Pegs on it and they are far superior to all other pegs

I it were up to me to buy another setup I would use IMS Pegs with AC standard nerf bars, or Pro Armor standard nerfs both without the heel guard.

Here are my Pro Armors

i like my doubled up 450r pegs and my oldschool ac set up.

but i like the IMS-ROLL set up the most. the mounting situation up front doesn't really matter..

The mounting system does matter. If you have ever seen a frame rail twisted because of that you would think twice about U-Bolts.

I had a 250R frame that had a twist in the bottom frame rail because of that type of mounting system

lonestar_R, I agree with you. The IMS pegs are the best and when combined with ac standard nerfs are pretty rock solid.
This is the best pic I have.

if i had the money i would go IMS ROLL. They have amazing quality products but they do have a steep price tag. Your also getting the best IMO. If I had the money no doubt I would do the IMS ROLL

yeah....i spent my last bit of extra cash on the tires and rims. i bought them from yamaha of troy and had to wait 2 weeks for them. was worth the wait but slooowwwww to ship em. Wont ever make that mistake again.

with my 400, i am willing to spend a little more on it. as it sits i only have about $1100 in it. so a few more accessories will come without problem. just not sure what will come first ( other than tires). lol.

and back to the thread, so it isnt completely thread jacked. if i had the money i prolly would of went with pro armor nerfs. but these AC's were cheaper and good for the price. and they held up good when i rolled it. lol.

I got the Pro Armor heel guard nerfs that use the stock pegs. I like them though I had to send the first set back to RMATV because the tab that mounts to the a-arm mount wasn't in the right spot and wouldn't mount up properly. I'm kinda tired of the stock pegs though and on a budget so I'll probably get some 450r pegs. If I had it to do over I might drop the extra cash and get the Fat peg ones. I do like the way the webbing goes around the frame as well.

09-25-2008, 07:36 PM
the only downside to fatpegs is the increased wear in your boots. you go through the soles so much faster its crazy

racerdan24
09-25-2008, 07:45 PM
i heard the same about fat pegs and tearin up boots so i have held off on getting them

Maybe the non fat peg Pro armors and the 450r or some nice aftermarket pegs are the way to go. I really like the nerf bars, just want some better pegs.
