i have an 86 i've herd that you can use an 88-89 cdi box for a better ignition curve can someone confirm that and is it plug and play or do u have to splice the newer plug end on it thanx?

The 88-89 CDI will plug right in to an 86 harness, no problem.

There is a slight difference, but it is unlikely that you'd notice, unless there is something wrong with your current CDI. The size difference (it won't fit properly in the 86 rubber boot) is the only thing you'd see for sure.

For about the same money as a stock CDI, you can purchase the non-programmable DYNA. It sparks hotter, and has a better curve which makes the R feel more crisp. It is physically smaller-- I use the stock rubber insulator for an 86 voltage regulator to hold it in my Rs.

thanx for the info, my cdi ant bad had the chance to get a new one for cheap thought i'd see what you guys would say.
