Yes, the manual says to use 10W-30 in both sides.

I Run 20W-50 GN4 in both sides in temps above 90, but since the temps are now in the 60-70 F ranges, I am running 10W-30 HP4S in the engine and GN4 20W-50 in the tranny side.

You can get the GN4 for 4.00 a quart from the dealer, that is a bit cheaper than the Maxima and etc. If you change every ride, the 9.00 quarts, plus filter costs, get pricey.

I change both sides including a new filter after every ride, so I can adjust my oil weights frequently too depending on climate.

You can search and find a lot of oil related talk on here, some good opinions and experiences. One thing I learned from this site is never to use the Valvoline VR1, it has too much Zinc and will destroy your clutch from lack of lubrication.

My 07 takes .72 US Quarts per side, per change, I am not sure if the 06 is the same, someone may want to chime in on that for us?

One thing I found when draining the tranny is that if I lift the right side of the bike up it drains out a LOT more oil than just draining on flat ground. I use a 8 inch block under the right side tires for a couple minutes.

There is a really good oil study report on amsoil that realy opened my eyes on a few oils that I thought were "good".

check out how many drop below grade in operating temps!
