wanting to know the thoughts from everyone on getting a bigger carb for my 03' 440 10:1 w/stg2 cam . i have been pondering the idea for about all summer now, just haven't wanted to break into the wallet yet. if anyone could help me out with details and what they think about getting one. unless anyone has any other ideas about a different bigger carb.

I had the same setup with the doug eichner series edelbrock carb and thought it was a pain in the butt. Just get a 450r carb

The 450R carb will out perform the Edlebrock....and is adjustable in way more ways than the Edlebrock

yeah...having an eddie, i now wish i had gone with a 450r carb. Don't get me wrong, it was an improvement, with easy tunability...but if you're wanting the biggest bang....450r, from what i've heard.

everyone i talk to told me to stay away from the elderbrock carbs on the ex im doing a 460 stroker kit on mine and i found the doug e. carb on ebay for a good deal but i was told i was better off with the stock carb but they do advertise a 7hp increase with that carb

thats seems pretty unreasonable considering the 400 has what 21 hp stock....thats a 33% increase in just a carb?

27 -29HP stock. you wont see 7hp on a stock engine from a larger carb but if you do mods with the stock carb then change to the better carb 7hp is achievable.

no disrespect but i still disagree....7hp is not as easy as a carb. Most bikes 4-5 hp is not unheard of with a full pipe open filter and rejet. most carbs are good for a couple up top but seven is alot....just my opinion.

well a guy with a HMF full system, UNI air filter with the EHS racing lid and he got a pretty good power gain from the 450r carb.

"190 main.....1st pull 31.18 rwhp

180 main.... 3rd pull 33.82 rwhp"

if stock is about 27 HMF full system adds about 2HP up top and the somewhat open airbox lid and UNI probally add 1HP so I look at it as a 3HP gain. Thats pretty amazing for the internals being stock. You could get more with a K&N and probally a more open airbox lid. On a built motor I would say its easy to gain that much.

Well my quad is pretty well bone stock except for the White Bro E series exhaust kit .

I just bought a 450R crab today to go on will tell ya how it reacts when I get it installed.

Oh and I got this from a 05 450R with all cables on it ready to install for a total of (after shipping) $69

Of course ill have to jet it though.

alright well I was def wrong on the hp #'s, I could have sworn I saw a dyno sheet at HMF for the 400 before and after but it was from hotcams saying 20-21......so this is a relief because I was a little dissapointed in those numbers :)

yeah....that was my Dyno run. The 31. HP was a 190K main...the 33. HP was a 180K main.

Honestly......GREAT upgrade......but I am still HIGHLY disapointed with the power of this machine. Don't get me wrong.....it rubs....great. But it can't throw me off the back! I want....NEED that!

Got 75% of my parts for a rebuild, even got spare cylinder, and all the small stuff like HD studs installed by GT Thunder, a XR400 head gasket, CRF450R timing chain, etc etc. All the right stuff....I just don't want to tear this thing down and not be able to ride for a couple weeks....lol. Although it shouldn't take that long.....I don't know what the hell I am procrasinating about....lol

yeah I hear that....I love modding/ wrenching on things but I bought it as a good backup reliable buddy bike and its killing me leaving it alone. Quad modding is an addiction :)
