eBay, these forums... I am kicking myself in the *** now because I had the opportunity to buy a 2005 450r carb for $50 from this local guy. I didnt have the money then and I didnt need it but as it grows on ya its already gone

Many posts have been written about this. Here is a pretty good write up.

BTW- 2004 or 2005 450R carbs work the best. Servicehonda.com has them for $159 NEW!!!!

Any idea why the 04 to 05 works best?

Is it that they changed the emissions on the quads and the carb is jetted different?

Just a thought what makes that year model better or different from the new ones? Also what if ya have a newer ex does it make a dif then?

Sorry for the 20 questions just curious lol.

The '04-'05 is a traditional round slide, while the '06 and newer is a flat slide FCR style carb. That not to say the '06 and newer won't work, just that most people have had GREAT success with the round slide version. It is also ALOT cheaper and readily available.

The '04-'05 450R carb works on all models of the 400EX.

quick question, anyone ever drill or shave off the upper part of their slide to make it lighter?

i figured if you made it lighter there would be less effort used for the throttle.

Hmm... did not think the throttle was that bad... but I doubt you would find "extra material" in the carb slide. Honda engineers designed the carb for a race inspired bike and would not leave weight on the carb slide.

there is some material to be lost. I dont think my throttle is bad at all. But it can always be better.
