Well I am finally going to start building a hybrid after years of contemplation. This will be my official build up thread that I will keep updated. This build will take some time because I'm currently in college.

This is what I am starting with. All the suspension components will be used but the frame, subframe, engine, and all engine components (except slip-on) will be for sale. So pm if interested.

Here's my 2003 Jb Racing frame and subframe I will be using. Some tabs were bent during shipping so UPS is coming to take a look and hopefully they will pay to fix with free pc!

Did JB Racing build the frame from scratch or did you supply a frame that they modified? Whats the cost for a JB crf450 frame?

It is a custom built frame for the crf450. I know JB used to modify stock frame for the crf as well.

Does it make mounting the motor a straight bolt in or do you still have to fabricate mounts? I'd like to do a hybrid someday maybe, but don't currently have the facilities to do alot of fabrication. I'll keep a watch on your build.

Picked it up off the for sale section here. They're hard to find and kind of expensive but well worth it.

Got my motor, carb and electronics in today. Got them for a steal, all three for cheaper than I sold my stock 400ex engine!

Got my engine mounted finally. I'm going to get it all thrown together in acouple weeks just to make sure the engine runs and such. Right now I have the rest of the parts in the mail to get this thing finished.

Those are some sexy mounts, mine was hard as hell to put on my lsr frame. For some reason lsr didn't get the engine postion totally right when making their frames. It's really close to the left side of the frame when the motor is in. That is a true JB, non stock frame. I always look for the crimped pipe that is wielded to the frame clear give away of a stocker. You got a winner there. I spent 3500 on a 05 crf motor, frame, swinger, stem, sub, and rear shock. I changed all of my parts out for the ones they sent me. LSR everything except a-arms. I put 11 grand into my baby, I havn't got to ride it yet :P It adds up fast, trust me lol.

Thanks guys.

No the shippers insurance company is still processing the claim. For right now I'm just throwing it all together just to get the engine running. Then hopefully tear it all down and get pc.

Got my dream water pump cover, east coast atv kicker ext. and yz250 kicker in today. Also got a set of AC nerfs and a PWR rad. Here's some pics for now, might have more later tonight.

Going home tomorrow to put the bike together so I should have some finished pics shortly!

Got home for fall break and put the bike together. Still working the bugs out and waiting for the rest of my parts. But i got the motor running and it runs strong and smooth. Well here's some pics, it's 98 percent done, just need cables and sprockets.

Looks good. I bet it went together a lot easier than building it from a stock 400ex frame.

It's probably a good thing you didn't have an 05 or newer or you'd probably miss the reverse gear.

I can't wait to see it with plastic and shrouds(if you use them)

My hybrid is using 400ex plastic and 250r radiator. I needed custom shrouds made.

Ya no shrouds yet. This frame takes 250r rad. and shrouds. I should have some shortly.

I plan on riding this bike a few times then tearing it down for some PC. Give me some suggestions. I'm keeping the aarms black and keeping same plastic but a black DFR seat.

Well here's some nearly finished pics. Still needs clutch cable and sprocket. Let me know what you guys thinks!

Thanks, this was really just a dry run to make sure the motor ran and get the kinks worked out. Hopefully I can have the final version done in a couple months. I also searched for a quad tech seat cover but came up short, dfr seems just as good.

I have also seen your quad, wish I had your suspension! good looking bike. I've got a question for you. My chain alignment is off. What did you do to get it in line?

thanks, the only difference in my frame is mines a 500 link rear end. it took me months to get my bugs worked out!! i built it then tried to ride it when finishing it. i got hurt then it put me way behind andi just played with it all year.

when i bought the frame and rear end it had washers between the sprocket and hub. havent had any chain problems all year. you can barely see it in this pic.

Looking good man.

Also about the quad tech seat covers. You can order them brand new from quad tech still.

Thank you
Justin

I contacted them a while ago about seat covers and they said they didn't have any, can you just use a 450R cover for the 400ex?

Instead of PC the frame, it may be easier to leave it if you like the color since it's in good shape and just change the plastic to yellow, and get a black seat cover.

Sorry i had a brain fart. Quadtech still makes the 250r seat covers. Im not positive on the 400ex. But i would think you could get the 450r seat cover to work also possibly.

Well I've got acouple updates. I am still waiting on my water pump parts so I haven't really been able to ride the thing yet.

I got maier plastics and a 250r maier hood. I had to retire the Quadtech, I am to afraid of flipping and cracking it. So it'll go on the wall somewhere ha.

Hood isn't on yet, just set on for pics.
Let me know what you guys think, give me some ideas. Thanks Mitch.
