I was wondering what kind of gas you guys run in your quads. I usually use 87 or 89. the highest at the pumps is 92. does the higher octane help out. Thanks

I usually run 92. whatever the gas pump can pump the highest octane. On my quad I usually run as high as I can becuase if im running lower it will run like crap.

Got to go with the 92 Octane, especially if you have moded your bike. Also longer life to your engine.

I run 88 octane or whatever regular is. I have had no problems, all I can think of is maybe fouling a plug out sooner, but other than that I run cheap gas because it is cheap.

I run 92 at least in my 400. Never had a problem. Also, if you read the owners manual, it tells you to run 92 octane or above. I believe it says this on the gas tank also. Not sure though, haven't looked at my tank for a few days.

My R gets a steady diet of Union 76 "110 competition" (110 octane) :devil

On a 400ex your suppose to run MINUMUM 92 octane. I usually use 93 or 94.

LOL!
But just think... after 10 years or so with all that money you'd save you could buy a new pair of tires...well not good tires, but tires! heehee

i run 93...seems to work great

its so cheap anyway so i just run 91,92,93, or 94 depending on what the station has

93 only. And by the way the only reason you byu higher octane is becasue it DOESNT light as easly as 87. 87 is easyer to light than 93. You need 93 if you have high compression set ups. If you dont use 93 in race engines pre ignition will occur. Any gas is fine for stock. Run 93 if you have engine mods that increase the compression. Not an option. SCIENCE.

the honda school in fla says regular because higher octane eats the seals thats what i was told by someone who just came home from there.

I just use premium pump gas, 92 i think. ran it for years in bikes and quads, never had any problems. I've used 83-89 in a pinch. seems to burn cleaner with the 92.

I like to swing by the local airport and pick up some AV gas.. I'll grab 2.5 av and 2.5 92... Runs and smells good.. Oh, and I toss a little klots red for added lube...

A lower octane gasoline should have no effect on the seals or gaskets. Some brands have additives such as ethanol which has a high water content, this could result in premature gasket failure.
Sounds like a load of BS (no offense).

My 400 runs straight VP C-12 leaded fuel. Five beans per gallon but I view the extra three fiddy as insurance.

I've heard the higher octane gas is just better quality. Who knows, but for the extra couple of cents per tank I'd say it's worth it, especially if you are running mods like no airbox lid and a pipe, etc. It would be a shame to have to get your motor rebuilt because you didn't spend an extra 10 cents when you filled your tank (before you flame me, yes, I know that would be an extreme case with someone that couldn't identify detonation).
In the winter they start using oxygenated fuel, anyone know the lowdown on the effects of this? My motor builder was talking about how it can cause a problem (with modded engines of course).

What gas to run, if you have a stock engine you can run 87, but it will lack some in performance with the lower octane. so, it is best to put in 92 or 93 from the pump wi the stock engine. That little extra might help in that drag race. If the engine is stock you are wasting your money by putting in race gas. You only need race gas if you have moded the engine with a different piston. The mid compression pistons can be run with a 50/50 mix. Some people will put race gas in just thinking that it will make the quad run better, but it doesn't on a stock engine.
The difference after 10 years from reg to premium might get you a set of tires, but from premium to race gas with get a whole lot more.

Ya, but the smell of good race gas... I'll pay a few dollers more for that alone... :blah
