Ok, for christmas, I'm getting some elkas, handlebars, a bumper, a hydro clutch and a few more little goodies. After I get through working in the summer, I should have a lot more money to play around with and here is my question. Should I deck out the 400ex, or find an R and fix it up? I really like the sound of an R next to my 400. About how much would it cost to find a decent R and get it runnin in tip top shape? It would be my first 2-stroke,(I have ridden them, but never owned) so I guess I need to learn a little more about them first, but what is your opinion?

i would get an R if i were you. its pretty hard to get a beat up 250r because everyone's already modded them. so i would just go on ebay and buy all the parts you need to build it yourself. and in the meantime you can ride your 400.

deck out the 400...... there are many r's out there.... some run very good and some always need work so oyu have like a 50 50 chance...... i say deck out the 400 if your already getting some stuff

Id go for the 250r if it looks good, you can tell that by looking at the frame, plastics, dents on bumper, check out the motor when you drive it arund for sounds and stuff and overall if it looks and sounds good go for the 250r, if nto go for 400 and mod her out.

i'd deck out the 400. I was in the same situation some time ago and u won't find a decent 250R for under 4000. If you do your real lucky. But the best thing you could do if your going to race would be save your money, sell your ex, and buy you a cannibal. I wish I would have did that over getting an R or my ex.

My thought would be to keep the 400ex and keep modding it. Take that 400ex motor out and get yourself a 250r motor! :) Its cheepier and the 400ex frame handles better than the stock R's frame. The engine is probably about $ 2,500. Its a crate motor so you can get them "Brand New" from places. Good luck
