Put a Keihin 39 PWK on it and get it jetted correctly. It's a good carb and will work even better with future upgrades.

Will it bolt right up?

I would reccomend a 38 instead of a 39. The 38PWK comes in an Air Stryker configuration (actually, it's almost impossible to find a 38PWK that is NOT an Air Styker, but they exist).

In reality, a 38 or 39 are both a tad big on the stock motor anyways, they don't have great low-end response. The 38 will perform a little better down low. The Air Stryker configuration adds a couple fins to channel air past the jet at low throttle levels, improving low end even more.

And 38 is plenty big, I don't think you'd see any real improvement by going larger to a 39 unless you also had significantly increased displacement, like a 310cc or larger.

It almost bolts right up. Most years of 250r integrated the carburetor cap into the throttle cable, but that cap won't fit the 38PWK, so you'll need a new throttle cable. You'll also need to heat up the intake boot between the filter and carb in order to get it to fit over the mouth of the larger carb.

i'll just throw in some quick input here...

i agree with wilkin, that between the 38 A/S and the 39, i would go with the 38...

as far as the intake boot, you may just consider buying a new one... they are a little more pliable than older ones, especially if you have the original, and if you have an old one and just now stretch it it is more prone to cracking... so, you may consider buying a new intake boot....

Right now I have the stock carb and it runs like crap it's really hard to get it in to the powerband.when it finally gets there it breaks up bad.but It also still has the stock reeds and I don't know if the guy I got it from jetted it when he put the pipe on.It has good compression.Does anyone know what could be wrong?

thanks

splinter,
check your reeds , and you definetly have jetting issues. Do a search on jetting, you will find all you need to know.

When I checked the reeds there was a couple of pedals that had a little gap in them.whats the best reeds for these engines?

splinter,
I like the fmf ram valve, but they don't make them anymore
 . I would recommend either the esr or v-force, both will be better than stock and reeds are available for them. I have a spare v-force reed setup if your interested.
