Pappy! Camera advise

Ken and Others,

I need to get my girlfriend a new digital camera (point and shoot style). She is looking for one that is not to big and takes pictures quickly. Also it would be nice if it is ready to shoot quickly after powering on. Her old cam is painfully slow at everything and the quality rivals only cell phones.

Price range $250-$400


I am sure you guys can point me in the right direction.

Canon G9 would be my suggestion, but in all honesty, a point and shoot type camera isnt something I am acclimated with enough to offer more then what I have been reading up on as the latest and greatest.
