I have had the 2000 400ex for a few months now. I have changed the oil on my own and know that I have no leaks. I noticed it smokes when my daughter gets on it and revs it up through the gears. My friend also noticed it puff a few times while we were riding. I left yesterday with a full oil res and we rode 1/2 the day and I have an almost empty oil res now. So I guess I have an oil burner. What are the suggestions for repair?? I am the third owner of the quad, I know it needs a rejet and valve adjustment, but think I have a bigger problem now.It runs strong, no problem there but I am loosing oil! I had planned on replacing all the seals and gaskets for the engine first but what should I do first?? New rings, etc for piston, or do I need a new sleve etc?? I do not want to change the bore at all but keep that stock. Any help is appreciated.

Did you crank it before you checked it. The oil will drain into the crank case, so inorder to check it you should crank it, let it run for 30 seconds or so, then check it.

to be specific it tells you to wait 5 minutes of running then check it
