I think this is the third year that rain has had an impact on poor Dan:p What was left of the tropical depression dumped 20 hours of rain on the track on thursday and man was the place a mess!

Dan did everything he could to get the tracks rideable, and by 11am, the Intermediate Track was seeing some action

The majority of the expert track was unrideable as the sun came in and out but couldnt dry the track fast enough. The ski slope jump was open and riders had a ball doing some impromtu freestyle over it

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3183/2811866071_3c0aa407e7_o.jpg

For me ...well I just wasnt having any fun:p If I had attempted to get into areas for better lighting or angles, they would have had to pull me out:eek2:

The new step up looked like it was pretty easy and smooth at the top

If you tried making it all the way around the track, you were looking at getting muddy:p

Hey I appreciate it LTR21

We would have stayed longer and even gone back today but Cody was plum wore out. That was his first real riding since he broke his leg and he was just out of energy after doing so many laps. His hands look like one big blister, but he is happy as ever to be back!!!

We plan on going up a few evenings each week to get him back in shape and dialed in on the 450. If you let me know what evenings would be good for you, I would be happy to do a shoot with you while Cody does laps!

Congrats on the bleacher jump Sunco! Not bad for a 47 year old:devil: :blah: I feel like I'm 60 years old today after riding the intermediate track yesterday. Damn braking bumps made my arms feel like noodles.

Thanks Barry for getting me unstuck in the deep mud!

Thanx Les - not sure that we've meet. I'll make it a point to say hello. We'll be back for October Fest. You ride a red 450? My quad is set up for the trails. I just tighten the shocks & have at it. Those breaking bumps worked on me to. Enjoy your week. Kids in NJ start school today. I guess they needed yesterday off to relax - thats why I unload everything myself from the toyhauler :( but as they say its all good :) I always enjoy my time at BPG - even if it rains. Les did you go the the fire & watch them play darts on there feet? I watched but passed on playing. Funny though - its always funny when its someone else  Flyboy is my son - the kids are always getting better each time. Get better at what you do and/or try a new jump & practice , practice , practice.

Sunco I don't think we've ever met but I know Flyboy and Rich from the past events. I always looks forward to seeing those guys on the holiday rides. Yeah I've got the red 450R (houser all around). I missed the late night festivities. I could only make it up for the day on Sunday. I'll look out for you next at Octoberfest. Have a good one and we'll see you soon.

Josh,

The new step-up is where the uphill triple was. Honestly, I would call it a step-up double...you can come up short but it definitely gives you a jolt. I was coming up 4' short and snapped a bolt in my Flexxbars. Ironically, I snapped the other one the previous day on the Intermediate track. It is smoother than ever though if you land where you supposed to land.

Personally I don't like anything on the Expert track except for the ski jump, the Rythem track is great just the way it is. I kinda like the rollers in the turns, makes the inside and outside lines more even. Just my 2 cents.
As usual Dan did a Fantastic job of getting the tracks in great shape after the mud!

I'm the total opposite, I loved the entire expert track but didn't have much fun on the intermediate.
Though the intermediate track improved my scrubbing & seat bunching skills :P

And yeah when I got there on saturday and saw the mudfest I was like well this trip was a waste :P
But he got it going pretty fast and sunday was great.
Now I need to find someone to go next week with me :P

I'm sure it has a lot to do with age. 2 years ago I would have loved the expert track but since turning 40(and being flown out of BPG) I don't like the really steep jumps anymore.

quad2xtreme
09-04-2008, 06:55 PM
I was really enjoying the expert track. I started hitting the flag jump again plus the uphill step-up double. Hitting the jumps definitely increases the fun factor. I am ready for the old setup jump to get an upgrade though. It feels about 4-6 feet shorter. When I was there, Dan put a new lip on the dining hall tabletop too so it was a perfect takeoff.

The rhythm track has always been my favorite. Although it doesn't have the same "pucker up" factor as the expert track, it is just a blast to either fly around on or just cruise and enjoy the jumps. Although the bleacher triple gets the attention, it actually isn't the most difficult jump there. The inside double before the stepup actually has the most "pucker up" factor. There is definitely a lower risk in getting hurt on this track...right Barry? :eek2:

I doubled through those whoops once in like 2nd gear. I wouldn't want to try and skim them on a quad, they have some steep lips :P

I am now doubling through a set of whoops at NCMP in 4th gear. You could never skim them either. There must be a difference between the two styles of whoops. I used to call the ones at NCMP a rhythm section as bikes and quads double through them and I've never seen anyone triple through them. When I watch the pro bike guys on television, they just seem to bounce through like a pogo stick never seeming to care where they land as they go through. I used to run the waverunner in the Chesapeake Bay this way...just all throttle just flying across the tops of the wave and never trying to time anything. You were going so fast you would rarely fall into the bottom of the wave. It hurt like he!! when you did though but nothing as bad as hitting the ground. I can see doing that on a bike or waverunner as there is really only one narrow path you are following. On a quad though, you can get twisted up very quickly if the front and rear tires aren't going off the peaks at the same time.

d3ktrix
09-05-2008, 12:39 PM
All the tracks around here and when ever I trail/pit ride you can just plow through the whoops and skim the tops.
But the ones at BPG on the intermediate track looked a lil sharp :P
I'm sure it could be done if u had the balls, but they looked sketchy to me.

i just double them, very smooth but i do agree that you would have a hard time skimming them...........im sure paul or randy would have no problem with that:D

That is the plan. Connie put in to get that weekend off. We will probably hit Rock Run on Friday, be at Barry's on Saturday and Sunday, back to Rock Run or Mountain Ridge ATV trails on Monday, then head back home Monday evening.

I pre-test jumps by getting a feel for the take-off which is why I never hit some doubles. I am not experienced enough really to know whether I will go far enough or too far. I snapped a footpeg bolt on the 400ex and it is only used for trail riding. Of course, it is a 2000. I guess any metal will eventually fatigue and break.

Just got a chance to get on line! Great pics pappy - I know you had to struggle for those shots on Saturday. The mud was pretty Deep! The pic of two quads back to back on the ski jump is INCREDIBLE !! Looks like one big quad. Flyboy great pics and video - also awesome job on your race, Congrats to your dad for clearing the tripple on the intermediate track. (don't tell him I'm gonna make it bigger this week)

Barry - not sure why you don't like anything on the big track except the Ski jump. Thats the hardest jump at the park. What do you mean you don't like the big limp jumps since being flown out.??? Didn't you get flown out of here from the intermediate track - on a jump that has NO lip??? I would think you would prefer the bigger air jumps - you always look good on them when I see you going big.

The whoops need some work, I built them to be doubled through - but they are too close and too easy. Not sure anyone could skim through them - I know I can't. I plan to make them less peaky and easier to skim through. Then I'm gonna put a set in that you need to double through - they'll be next to the water jump on the int. track. The line there now is too easy and fast.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the weekend, and to all the kids who signed up and raced on the Kids Track. It was a great weekend for the park and I look forward to having everyone back out before the year is over.

I would think you would prefer the bigger air jumps - you always look good on them when I see you going big.

You're right Dan. Guess I just need to nut up and start hitting the big jumps again. I think the real problem is not being able to ride more than once a month and not racing at all anymore.

Maybe next year.....

Barry, I'm sure if you get back on a HONDA those jumps won't seem so big. All our best riders are on HONDA's!!

Dan is right. That LTR let you down on that double...your only chance on wiping out on the Honda would have been overshooting it... :eek2:

guys me and my buddy Paul were at Breezewood today and Dan has reworked the intermediate track and there are some sweet changes. Just about everything from the connector table to the bleacher jump was reworked or relipped. There are some new doubles added by the water jump option line and some rollers after the connector. All in all, everything was a nice change to the track. Expect big air on the all the jumps leading up to the bleacher jump. All the lips were made bigger....gotta allot of pop now:D Better do a courtesy lap before giving it h*ll on that track.

Big thanks to Dan for letting us take advantage of a gorgeous day and get in some awesome riding. Had the whole place to ourselves and both tracks were groomed just for us:devil: :blah: :D If the weather holds out this week, this weekend should be some of the best track conditions I've seen there this year!

Hey Les, good having you and Paul out yesterday. You were bombing all the big jumps on the Advanced track while I worked on the intermediate. Was hoping to see some of those cool shots of you whipping it over the connector water jump.

Glad you liked the changes on the intermediate track. You guys looked good out there killing it. Hopefully I'll have my quad back together this weekend and will be out there.

The weather forecast calls for a chance of passing showers on Friday and Saturday. I'm gonna back blade the tracks today so if we get any rain it will just roll right off the tracks.

I expect AWESOME TRACK CONDITIONS this weekend.

so it looks on your first pic that the connector jump is no longer a water jump? Is the distance the same? Any other changes?

That pic was taken from the other track and the elevation makes the jump look like there is no gap. All the pictures above with the water are the connector water jump on the advanced track. The distance is still the same as before. Dan was working on the advanced track when we left and was talking about making some minor changes to that track. There are many changes to the intermediate track that were made this week. Some nice changes except for the 3 small doubles that run next to the small water jump. They ate me up this week. I'm glad Dan removed some small pine trees in that area because I would have got intimate with them.
