Im getting 10:8:1 piston, hotcam 2 and having some port work done. Should I stay at stock bore or would it be worth it to go ahead and get the 416 piston? I ride in a lot of sand and some trails. Every once in a while, i ride on an mx track. Thanks, Anthony

you mine as well do it case you will gget alot more power with all the other mods plus you already have the engine apart so why not do it now rather than tearing the motor down in another year just casue you are in need of more power you mine as well just do it right now cause you will be happy with the power and save some money and time.

I asked the same thing a little while ago and many people told me to go with a weisco performace piston on a stock bore.

Just telling ya what I was told.

Good luck.

I think i will just stick to the stock bore right now. Im gonna order from moto-man.com. 10:8:1 piston, hotcam stage 2, and clymer manual for 275 shipped. Sounds okay to me. Thanks, Ant.

One thing to think about is that your bike is a 99, so you probably have alot of miles on it. So I wonder what kind of shape that bore is in anyway. In your case I would go with the 416. But what do I know.

Please make sure your cylinder is still within spec and then HONE the cylinder if you are staying with the stock bore. I installed a stock bore JE 10.5:1 and an XR cam about a year and a half ago without honing the cylinder because it "looked" fine. Well after 6 months the thing was blowing oil and was in need of a rebuild.

If you are staying with the stock bore, measure the tolerances and hone the cylinder. I moved up to the 416 10.8:1 and it has been as reliable as it was before I tore into the motor.

Thats the thing that i have been thinking about. Its a 99 and the cylinder probably isnt in great shape. I think I will go with the 416, thanks.

I have the Sparks advance key in my 02' 400EX. I am putting a Wiseco 10:8:1 piston and Hotcams stage 2 in. Should I go back to the stock key? Why is it that you shouldn't run this key with higher compression? I don't want to leave it in if it's going to hurt my motor after these mods.
