my friend wants a quad really bad, he has a job and is saving his money for a 300ex, he wants to race it after riding with me and raptakilla15 for a year so he can learn how to ride really good, we were wondering what kind of money you would have to put into the 300 to make it a good race quad, not a championship winning all out racer, but a good race quad, i was thinking like 2k could do it, that could get aarms, shocks, axle, tires, and then a cam, highcomp piston, and a pipe. i think all that can be bought for 2k, some of it can be used, i was just wondering if he should even bother with a 300 as his racer, i think he should, but i thought some expert opinions might help

withthose mods and good riding ability a 300 can be competetive. but with 250R's and 400ex's being sold so cheap why even mess with it. for $3500 he can get either of those quads and just about go racing. my 2 cents:p

it takes alot more than 2K to make a 300 competitive, trust me;)

Very True. Tell him to save another 500 bucks and get a 400Ex or a 250R.

And most of them will already have mods on them. Normal mods. Pipe, Tires, Rims, Bars Nerf Bars and Axle.

I agree fully, save for a 400ex and do it right, if he doesnt he WILL regret it. Just my 2 cents. Trust me my best friend is trading in his 300 because it cant even keep up with my stock 400, its very frustrating not being able to keep up, and for that kind of money, save for a 400.;)

Don't forget...he's a new rider....I wouldn't want someone starting out with a high-power 250R...too much power for somone starting out.

Yea but if he's tight for cash, he may not have the money to buy quad after quad, you do have a good point about the power issue though.

I think he would be arlright on a 400 or 250r as long as he doesn't go ape $hit on the throttle or just set up a throttle limmiter for a little while and the decrease it as he get's accustombed to the power

yea, id save for a 400ex or just buy a 250r he'd be better off, but 300ex yes has potential but its alot of the rider too

He needs to save for a 400 or a r. 2K is just a drop in the bucket to build a race ready 300 that you will never get your money out of when you go to sell it. Then you have to start spending more money on the next race quad to get it to your liking I've done the 300 deal it's fun at first with the nov. but as your move up in classes it's to much work to make it fast.

I would say get a 400, an R is probably more maintanence and repairs than a beginner wants to fool with. Especially if he doesn't have a lot of mechanical knowledge.

If he is good enough and in the right class he wont have any trouble keeping up, I went to practice today and held off a C-dale for a lap, then he got by me and I didnt have the power to keep up, but I am mostly stock, and then I rode my cousins XR200 and was beating the 125 and 250 beginners, and I havent ridden a dirtbike in a year, so its all rider.

yes get a 400ex, i have only done 2 harescrambles and know that i should have got a 400ex, Ive spent about 2g over the summer on my 300 and it was mostly repairs and small stuff that got big. Im getting a 400ex so i will have something worth somewhere around what i already spent. Save the extra 500 then put the other 1500 into a 400ex and be ahead of some of ther other 400's.

A guy I ride with sometimes has a 2001 or 2002 400ex for sale, I think he wants like 4000 for it. It has a WB E, WB nerfs and bumper, jets, airfilter, maxxis razrs all around, shaved frond fenders and renthal bars. He may have more than this done to it but he takes great care of it. If u are interested let me know.

dude, 2k try more lke 5 or 6. my old 300 would run laps around 400's & some r's. dude its way more worth it to buy like a 400 or a r. the only reason i have a 300 is because my dad won't let me get anything bigger. like buzzaw said, its fun at first but then you get screwed when you try to sel it, unless you sell it to a total dumb*****
