i have always jumped mine some but nothing too extreme. i was wondering how much air you can get on a 400ex with stock shocks and everything. i have always had utility bikes before this one and it just feels like im going to break something when i jump since im used to breaking utilities when i jump.

i was flat landing mine from about 8 ft high and about a 45 ft gap...i wouldnt push it any more than that. that is alot for the stocker. i would go as much as 10-12 ft if i had a nice downside to land on. if you are jumping this high try to land a little rear end heave as the rear shock soaks up big hits better than the fronts

i've flat landed from 6 feet up going 23 feet distance wise. I wish the ramp was above ground so i would have really been flying! lol They will take a beating, i've hit things pretty hard and I got off to mak sure I didnt just blow out my shocks or something but they are still working great. I now have 450r front shocks and they will take a beating even better.

In huevos 4 they freestyle stock 400ex's off huge jumps. Also John Guetter not sure on the spelling started out on a 400ex. If you land it right they will jump anything but if you land hard a couple times they will break just like any other quad

I've made about an 75-80 foot double that I over shot by about 20 feet on the stock rear. It was a little rough landing but the Axis' really help.

It can take some pretty nasty landings with stock shocks, just hurts a little haha

I've got a few that would make that look like a ride through grandma's flowers. :D
We've since got the problem solved.

Well that first one is from the whoops and the second one you have to clear this guys drive way like 35-40'. Your pretty high to but I plan on clearing it this last race. It's really amazing how much smoother it is just to clear it. It's also amazing how cranking the pre-load up makes it bottom less.

how do you even adjust the screw on the rear shock? this is the first bike i have had with gas shocks. what way makes it stiff and what way makes it hard, or whatever it does :o

on the left side of the quad theres a screw on the resevoir. get a flat head screwdriver and adjust accordingly.

You have to have a wrench to loosen the nut then you have a flat head screw to turn either harder or softer.

Ive bottomed my stock shocks out plenty of times, from landing hard on the front and slaming the back. I have never broke nothing or even heard anything pop or anything. Stock shocks are pretty good for what they are tho.

Ive bottomed mine hard enough that the frame left marks on the ground. It hurt me, but the quad was ok.

I'm talking from exp, I've blown out 1 450r shock. Never a 400ex, honda made this quad to be ripped to hell and back and still run. I've gotten in some pretty nasty wrecks, never once have I bent or broken a stock 400ex shock. Anyways, put 2 grand into your quad and you won't have to worry about those nasty stock shocks. THEY ARE EVIL.
