Well here Is my latest creation guys. It started out as a 02 CRF 450 frame. I added 07 TRX 450 rear suspension with a Axis shock. The front forks are standard length 01 CR 500 units. I had the rear shock set up for this one of a kind bike. I added lots of strength to the lower frame cradle to allow me to run trx 450 footpegs. The gas tank was custom made by me and my rubber mallet LOL.

The rear plastic Is from a 07 450ER, the radiator shrouds are aftermarket 02 crf. I rode this bike In northern MI 2 weekends ago. I put 60 miles on the bike, and have never been happier on anything. So what do you guys think? It's a little different :)

WOW, that's f'n amazing looking!

I can't believe how factory it looks.

Awesome job! Did you custom make the piece that mounts the forks to the frame to get the atc wheel space?

I think if you really know how to ride a trike, they could be a great combination of 2 and 4 wheels. Look at that travel on the forks.

250Renvy, I built the triple clamps myself from some 6061 aluminum. I used almost all Honda parts for this build, and they all fit together nicely. I'm real happy with the handling and suspension. It has 11" of travel front and rear. The CRF frame worked out PERFECT and gave me enough ground clearance to use all of the suspension. I have quite a bit of sag built Into the suspension to keep the ride height low. I've rode 3 wheelers for many years, and the power of the crf engine makes this bike real easy & very fun to ride.

Man, that thing gets me all teary eyed thinking of the good ol' days. I've owned many three wheelers and the T-3 was my favorite. That is truelly a piece of art. I bet it is fun as hell to ride.

REDRIDDER, The pic's make It look like that because of the way I resized them. It kinda pissed me off when I looked at It again. When your standing next to It, It looks much different. It's hard to believe how much better It looks In person.

When I saw this thread I thought, yeah another hack job, but I was wrong. Very good job on the engineering and welding. Looks very clean and well thought out. I'm glad to see you do something useful with a two-wheeler:p

thts a crf frame right?

and did u have 2 make fender mounts

Jason Hall
08-29-2008, 07:20 AM
Yes It's a CRF frame. I used a 05 TRX 450 rear subframe so the fenders bolt on just like the quad, with all the stock Honda brackets.

250Renvy
08-29-2008, 07:45 AM
So this could probably be done with the CR250 or CR500? The frames are pretty close.

Jason Hall
09-02-2008, 06:43 PM
Yes the aluminum 250r 2 stroke would probly be easier because of the location of the top shock mount. I'm quite sure aluminum 500's were never produced directly from Honda, but Sevice Honda will build you an Aluminum 500.

i want one lol looks great though! so good it could be factory 2009 3 wheeler

Jason, did you COPY ME?

Hey all, Jason's a genius in the shop. His conversion is soooo far advanced than mine was. His actually handles how a trike should. I just wanted to poke at a really good friend and I KNOW he'll give it right back! Mine was shiney! :D

You know I'm just jaggin ya! Glad to hear it handles great. Hope you are coming to my place in a few weeks, I wanna ride it!

Congrats on the Smith Rd Racing.

Jason Hall

Craig, I did copy you. I told you I wanted that 250, you butt face. I would have made It turn rather than sell it off LOL.

I hope we can make It, but just don't know If the cash flow will allow It. I spent to much money on the 450.

The Smith Rd racing was friggin NUTS, and I enjoyed every minute of It. Well every minute except when I lost 3 positions In one turn WAAAA.

I can't! I parted mine out and it no longer exists. Jason's woulda handed me my *** I'm thinkin. Here is a buddy drag racing it against a mildly modded Shee. In 300' it ripped, but the trans gearing kept if from being a serious threat in a longer run.

Jason, try really hard to scrape yer pennies. It would be a shame for you to have to WAIT 6months to make it out. BTW, you KNOW I wanted what YOU have now....a 4 stroke! I kicking around an idea for my next Frankenstein project. KLX650 STREET TRIKE!

Jason Hall
10-21-2008, 05:20 AM
My handlebars are just right LOL. Your forks are to short :D

Look how perfect the bars are when I'm standing / jumping the bike. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff42/Jasons450r/menorthaf450.jpg:)

See your bars are so high that it translates into your jumping style...lol...you need to keep that front end down...here let me show you the right form...

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff42/Jasons450r/jacobupnorth7ba.jpg[/QUOTE]

you should get lessons from him...

oh and for my forks ;) i know you've asked about them before over at 3ww which you know i can't answer  But they are actually adjustable. As you know i did not get my PEP shock untill the last minute so i set them up internally to work with the stock TRX shock. I then lowered the forks in the clamps to set the ride height. Then when i finally got my PEP...with only a few days before smith rd when the pics were taken...there was no time to revalve/re set the forks so i simple moved them in the triples to readjust ride height. I have left them that way for the last month or so so i could test them in this configuration (10.5" travel) i'll use this set up as a basis for trail/play riding. Then this winter when i disassemble it for it's REAL paint job i'll rework the forks with Factory Connection "works" spring seats, oil lock collers, differant springs, and possibly remote adjusters and a air system. i'll then set it at 11.5" travel and place them higher in the clamps to achieve same ride height as with the 10.5" travel set up.

HA HA you are right, that little turkey knows how to do It. I must say though, the picture of me Is just as I was leaving the ground. The lip on the jump shoots the back end up BIGTIME. If you don't come off with the front end high, you will nose dive BAD. Notice how the rear suspension Is still compressed. The lip was shootin the little 85 3 wheeler nicely.

Check out this pic of my 11 year old jumping the tabletop at our practice track. I had to enhance the pic so you could see him because of the leaves on the tree's. I came up about 2 feet short on the same table top, man was that scary for an old guy LOL. I will clear It this weekend, and get some better pic's.

Did you have to modify the 450r swing arm to mate with the aluminum frame, and what about the front wheel hub.

Jason Hall
10-24-2008, 04:55 AM
I milled the side's of the swingarm to fit between the crf frame. I have done this to a few trx swingarms without problems. You don't have get Into the strength of the swingarm, you just have to modifi the dust caps and the material on the swingarm that holds the dust cap. The front hub Is a stock atc250r unit with custom spacers and an offset brake rotor adaptor.

Jason Hall

Yes, the fenders bolt on directly because I used a stock TRX450r subframe.

Thanks for the compliments guys

But, your right. Jason's is a very nice trike. Probably one of the best bike conversions I've seen in a looong time.

so hey jason! i guess your the man here. theirs no dout thats the baddest atc build ive found online. thank god its a honda the best on earth!!!!! your craftmanship is top notch! the lines are perfect it does look factory honda! like the white too very clean. so i know you did this yourself. i wouldnt change a thing besides adjusting leavers. but have you heard of anyone building a service honda like atc500af???? ive seen all the atc500's with the old steal frames but has anyone tried the 500 two stroke in the new gen frames? i know for sure your trike rips, but your bike w a 500 would totally shred ice on a lake!!!!

I have talked about It with a few people, and It would be cool to build a atc500af, maybe someday LOL.

Thanks for the compliment's guy's. 3 Glammis trip's, a few MX race's, and LOTS of trail riding later and all It still Great. I still love It!!!

Sure Is a clean Nicholson! It should bring quite a few buck's.

Not sure how they made that rear suspension work In all out desert racing with that top shock mount. Looks like It would fold the subframe In half.

Amazing bike! Nice job. Where did you get the fast trekker tires. I didn't know they were still available. I Wouldn't mind getting a set. Are the dimensions, rake, wheelbase, seat height close to a 250r? How's it handle? I'm sure it's got plenty of power. Im Definitely envious.

Jason Hall
12-13-2011, 08:19 PM
Bsmith106 - I built It to fit me like a 250r, low seat height. I like to keep my foot on the peg when leaning off the seat. If you zoom In on this pic you can see my foot Is still on the footpeg.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff42/Jasons450r/450R-1.jpg
It handle's awesome, I played with the rake to make It just what I wanted. 0 rake In the triple clamp's, along with a leading axle makes It turn better than a 250r. A stock 250r has rake built Into the clamp's (6 deg), and a trailing axle. With that setup (stock 250R) IMO It wear's on your arm's as the bars are alway's trying to pull straight. Fast Trekker's are getting hard to find In 18x11x10. I bought mine In 08, when they were still available.

This 250R has 0 rake with Invert's, and a 85 seat.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff42/Jasons450r/450r-250r2.jpg

This pic Is along side a 86R which has a higher seat than a 85R.

Black Sheep when you saw that R It was fresh from the dune's and still had the shock and forks setup for the longer swingarm. I had very little time to get It ready before Louis picked It up from my house to take It to Derrick.
