When replacing the rear brake pads I noticed a half-dollar-sized disc between the piston and pad, made of composite and a thin gauge metal stamping. I don't know Honda's technical term for it or what it's supposed to do (Even the repair manual doesn't make any mention of this part or its function). Anyway, It appears to be deformed with a small dimple and there is slight cracking in the composite on the back side. Is this something I should be worried about? It is still in one piece and doesn't appear to be more than a phenolic spacer of some sort. Anyone have a spare that they can part with? I haven't been inspired with confidence in my local dealer even when I know what part I need. I can only imagine the carnage if I try to describe this "mystery" part to them.

It's just what I describe as the piston protector. From what you describe it will work fine. Just put it back on the piston.

Thanks! That's kind of what I figured. I'll slap it back together and go ridin'.
