cbr600...???? suggestions....???

Hey all

Ok so i am serously thinking about buying a cbr600r motor and putting it in my 01 trx 400ex now the top frame rails are only 10 inches apart and a cbr600 motor has to be close to 24 inches wide............any ideas i just want a lot more power and i really like the feel of how my 400ex rides like its on rails i just need more power...... any suggestion on best engine swa

i forget who did it, but they basically just cut out the top frame rails and rewelded them around the head of the 600. seemed like it was kind of a hack job though..:rolleyes: it would be fun if it lasted though.

yea i really would just like to do somthing thats not going to ruin my 400ex but make it really fast mayb xr650 i herd that swap works good.......just looking for suggestions or if anyone has already did this some help/guidence

I would think that a CBR600 engine would rip apart a reinforced 400ex frame without problem, but that would be awesome to see an ex with a CBR600 engine good luck with that.

yea the cbr600rr motor i am looking at is 110hp stock so even if ruff shape 90+hp but i need more power anyone have any suggestions for a engine swap that still honda and has more power....????

i really dont think a 600cc 4cylinder will cut it power wise.....id say chevy 350 small block could fit if you know how to weld....:rolleyes:

lmao small block chevy. id say if you want good power go for the cr500 idea. much cheaper and you will be a god amoung us lol. it will own all hybrids and girly 450s haha.

yea i could go cr500 but i want 4 stroke not 2smoke no offense 2stroke guys but i owned a 1983 cr 250r they are quick but dont like rebuilding top end every year i ride hard and just like the reliablity of 4 stroke..........i was thinkin mayb a 450r motor but not sure i want laods more power like i road my buddies raptor 700r le and its way differnt than my 4 hundie i just want power all the time at any speed in any gear.......mayb a turbo is the way for meeeee:D

just a basic question.....you love everything about the 400 handling etc BUT you want to cram a much larger heavier motor in there?, that would change everything as far as handling characteristics go.

in answer to your question katch26 i do love everthing about my 400 except that it wont go 80+mph with heavy mods and i do not want to spen big$$ and go slow so if i am going to spen 2000 on a motor upgrade it might aswell be a good one at that i already have a 440 kit with stage 2 hot cam and full exhaust jetted with air box lid off and im still looking for more power so a cdr 600r thats makin 100+hp should do for about 1000$ and ill save money :D

are you like 14 years old? a 400ex frame with a cbr600 engine in it would be good for absolutely nothing except dunes....it would handle like hell, suck in the woods, and be a heavy useless turd. if you want to do 100+mph buy a motorcycle. it would be a shame to see a perfectly good 400's frame get hacked to **** because some kid wants to go "fast"

The guy who had mine before me said it would go 86mph, it had 15/33 gearing at the time, if that is true or not i dont know.

i do agree with katch and hyper, all your goods about the bike will be junked when you add another 100+ lbs to the frame. the frame wont be able to handle it and it will have to be heavely reinforced, gussets out the butt. yeah youll llike the power, but youll sink. it will be a tank. i say a 450r hybrid. and youll be happy

yea i have rode a slightly modded 450r and it had good pull through all gears................has anyone done the 450r conversion and have pics of the process?



nippleclips......im 21 and live in ontario i will soon own a gsxr600rr and will have no problems goin fast i just want my ex to go fast too sorry when floating down a trail at 50mph seem like walkin to me

with the new hi performance four stroke engines, you will be rebuilding them every yr...and they are more expensive to do than a 2 stroke. the 400ex is bulletproof which is why you haven t needed to rebuild it often. a CR500 would be a better choice, cuz it is cheaper and easier to maintain...has alot of torque and power, and it wont wear out as easily as a 125 or 250 2 stroke because you wont need to beat on it to make it go fast. trust me

sorry, it just gets bothersome at times when you get people on here that dont use commas, periods, etc...i dont have the best grammer on here myself, but it is nice to be able to read sentences and understand them. it seems that especially lately alot of the new kids just dont know how to type at all and it has really been getting to me.

A cr500 motor is awsome in a quad, and it can be done with good results. If you want some more info on it check out trx500r.org.

This is mine btw.. it has a bad crank seal that im in the proses of replacing which is the reason for the extra smoke.
