I was recently at Breezewood Proving grounds and in order to hit the triple on the intermediate track and the big uphill double on the pro track I had to hit them both in 4th gear because 3rd just wasn't fast enough and 4th was not even half throttle almost bogging.

I know that isn't right and my gearing is 14/40 so the tooth in back is one bigger making it slightly lower. What should I do go back to the stock 14/39 and drop a tooth to have the 13/39 to keep acceleration out of the corners and off jumps? this is with 20's in the front and 18's in back. and this is also for a 2005 400ex..

Stock on my 03 is 15, 38. to go to a 14 and a 40 is a big jump in low gears. I would try a 1.4, 39 to get you in the middle of third. I think. It would make it a tad faster to get you faster while reving about 7000rpms to keep your power at the max and speed up. 13, 39 would probably keep you in 4th and reving relatively high. I am not sure what gear you want to be in but 4th with the 13, 39 would work great while the 14 39 would get you alittle more speed in 3rd which could also help if the track is alittle longer and open. if it is a real tight course then go 13,39 since speed is not a concern. Good luck I hope this helps some. I am not positive. let me know how it works. Steve

Try the 14/39, if its low as ur saying maybe even 14/38.

The 18" tires kill a lot of top end speed.

I was hitting that step up 3rd 1/2 throttle last week with my 450. Pinned I'd over clear it.
Hit it once in 2nd on the limiter and just made it.
