View Full Version : What do you guys think of my homemade grab bar so far?

I wanted something that looked a bit sportier than the standard 6 pack rack so I decided to make my own. The welds still need to be ground down, it needs to be powder coated, and I need to finish the exhaust hanger. I designed it to carry a standard military 50 cal/5.56 ammo box mostly because they are cheap ($6), semi water proof, and look a lot cooler than an igloo cooler. I still may paint the box so that it matches the bike a bit better though. Let me know what you guys think.

I hate six pack racks all together and cooler racks, but I will say those are some very nice clean welds.

looks pretty good. would of been better if you just bent one piece of tube metal, an didnt cut pieces an weld them together. just my .02

I like it! Do think you need to put some attention to those welds. I would paint the box to match the quad, it sticks out like a sore thumb since it's green.

But nice work for homemade!

i like it. i think it looks very..well for lack of a better word. tough. matches the black quad very well, and it matches the ammo box with a little bit of a milatary look.

If I had a tube bender that could do tight radius bends like that I would have but my garage is limited. Thanks though

The goal was to make it not look like the typical cooler rack though :hs: I dont like that look either

I would rather have that than a typical rack. Like the way you did it, kinda matches the rear fenders if you think about it.

Very nice. I have a couple of suggestions that you can take or leave.

1) It's probably to late to widen it now, but it would seem that having the box sit lower in the rack would prevent it from getting knocked/bumped out.

2) Weld some Expanded Steel Grating to the bottom so that you can carry stuff other than the ammo box there (bungees, beer, etc.). You could just use plate, but the epanded grating would keep it from becoming a mud bucket.

Very nice rack though!

I cant lower it as the handle on the side will hit the bar. Thanks for the idea I may do that!

Thanks for the compliment
