I have 400EX A-arms and works dual rate front shocks. They arent 400ex shocks, and they arent 300ex shocks, When I bought them I was told they were 400ex shocks but when I got them they were shorter then stock 400 shocks. My works measure out to 15 and 3/4 inches long from end to end. Is this how you are supposed to measure them? When they say a 400ex shock is 16 inches long is that from the end of the shock to the end of the shock? These shocks I have will bolt right up w/ no need to compress them or nething like that. When I first got them I put them on and it was really easy to bottom them out, so I had them rebuilt by the quadshop and had them valved for a 170 lb rider, 400ex a-arms on a 300ex, and i also had ssd put on them. When I got them back I mounted them up and they were very soft it was very easy to make them bottom out, I could push on them w/ my hands and make them bottom. I called Marty and he sent me out stiffer springs for them. I decided to see what they were like w/ out the ssd, so I took off the ssd and made them back into dual rates and put them on, and they felt the same as they did before I sent them to be rebuilt, I cranked the preload alll the way down on them, as tight as it goes, and they were still pretty soft. I dont know what to think, im really confused. Could it be because of the angle of the shock? It is a lil more radical then stock 400/ stock 300. Im still waitin for the stiffer springs and I'll see how it works out with those. The shocks are 15 3/4 inches long from end to end, which is almost 16 inches, and is as long as a 250R shock, but im not sure if I measured right, here is how I measured-

Thanx for any help, this is turning into a real headache

btw - in the pics I had the springs off cuz i was polishing the shock bodies, lol

They arent 400 shocks, there shorter then 400 shocks. Im thinking they feel so soft because of the increased leverage on them because of the angle of the shock?

YOu measure the shock from center of each bolt hole, JIM

They could be banshee shocks. My works should be here tommorow. I'll measure and post again.

Nice, ok cool, thanx man.

I think the problem w/ my shocks is the angle of them, the angle is more radical then a stock 400, which puts more leverage on the shocks making them softer. I think I need to make a top shockmount for them to bring the angle back to a stock 400.

They could be R shocks. I put EX shocks on my R and they where about 1/4-3/4 shorter then the EX shocks. The 300EX and 400EX also weigh much more then an R, the R shocks are valved much lighter.

Could you measure your R shocks for me, if you could? My shocks are 14 3/4 inches long. Thanx man.

I talked to a guy at works and he said they could be off a banshee or maybe even a tecate 4. Im thinking about selling these and just having works build me a pair, I think that would be easier. What do you guys think, ne suggestions? Its greatly appreciated, Thanx
