I cannot get the fan to run, tried grounding the sensor wire, checked all connections, does not seem to have any power...

Did you take your key off ... ????

If you did then you will need to wire the ground wire back into play .... if the key circut isnt grounded (like when you take the key off) then it will take power away from all your accesories, like your fan and lights ....

This is just one thing that i came into with mine one time ....

When you start your bike does the red temp. Light come on at all?

No key, I unhooked all the wires, the red and black with white stripe are hot, black and green are ground....
That is how it tested anyway, the fan will work from a 12 volt test, I ran the sensor wire to ground to make it stay on.
Not sure where to go from here... Z.

I had the same problem. I also don't run a key on any of my 450rs. Make sure your temp light is hooked up (fan won't run without it hooked up) and comes on when you start the bike. My problem ended up being a bad tether/kill switch, I put a new one on and the fan worked.

You need to splice the red and black together to make the fan work. The other 2 hook up to a teather kill switch. Make sure when you wire in the switch you hook the black with a white stripe up to the plunger and the green to the wire that comes out of the metal part of the switch. Either way you hook up the switch it will work, but if you hook it up the other way it energizes the metal and shock the crap out of you if you touch it.

When I have the red and black together the wires get hot to the touch..

Maybe something else is wrong. What I described is the way it should be. Sounds like maybe there is something grounded that shouldn't be.

Tail light wires had grounded to the frame, overheating the regulator and now the CDI will not allow the fan to come on, changed the CDI and now it works..

The positive wire goes to a black and white wire coming from the CDI, the ground goes to the frame.
