27hp on a dyno stock rearwheel hp, got this info off another forum jumps up to around 29-30. with a good aftermarket pipe.

Well About 28 hp. With a good pipe it would be about 30-31 hp. Port and polish now up to about 40 hp. 330 kit will go to about 55 hp. Im pretty sure this is correct. Go to a search engine and find the dyno charts like Joeroadking said.

Stock is about 27, you can make a stock cylindered R make over 100hp, but that takes alot of time and money...lol

Yeah probably. I was reading out of a magazine "How to slay a raptor" With was a black decked out 330r. It was showing what gave it hp and stuff like that. Well it works for me :)

THANK YOU!!! I knew I could count on this forum. :) I have a friend that bought one new. He wants a 4 stroke and is afraid the 400ex or Z would not have as much power as the R.

u can gain alot more then 2-3 horses from almost EVERY 250R pipe out there. I think the weakest of the big brands is FMF and it is around 7hp. I think the top guys LRD, Sparks, Paul Turner, ESR, are all getting about 10hp out of there pipes. Sure diff. pipes make differant HP.

Anyways, if a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke have about the same HP, the 2 will most likely win. THe power:weight ratio favors the 2 stroke. Plus the power differances would also favor a 2 strke in a drag

Wow, I had no ideah you could pull 10 hp out of a pipe. I was thinking that you can get about 10-15 horse out of, lets say a 310 kit on an R. In a magazine of mine it says a 440 kit for a 250r is between 40-46 hp. That really confused me.

You gain about 5-8hp with a pipe. We had a big war going on in the powertrain forum a while ago about this. The FMF actully makes over 1 HP more then the LRD. Beerock had the dyno charts to prove it.

I have had FMF 2 and 4 stroke pipes. I have been happy with them. My banshee had a great power-band. Pulled from bottom to top.

Are you sure you are reading that magazine right? Usually a 440 kit is a kit for a 400ex. The only widely available 400+cc kit for 250r's I've seen is the PSI 425. Also, if I had a kit that big and was only getting 46hp I'd shoot the motor builder. The PSI 425 gets over 70hp. My R is only a 350 and should be in the mid-high 70 range (a lot of compression though). I'll be getting it dynoed pretty soon.
For pipes, it depends on what type of riding you do but the ESR TRX-5 is pretty hard to beat.

Actually that was Mac Racing here in Oregon. ATVconnection just tested it. It's a CR500 jug mated to a R bottom end.

it is true, the FMF pulled more power than several big name pipes, i ferget names, anyway, but once the porting is done, im sure if LRD ported for their own pipes, and FMF ported for their own, LRD would PROBABLY make more HP, but who knows

Yeah last I heard it was stroked 10mm (yowser!).

I have a LRD pipe but my motor is ported by LRD and it comes with the big bore packages. If I were to change I'd consider ESR or just have CPI custom build a drag pipe, muuahahahaaa
Usually manufacturers advertise the HP gain when THEY built the motor to suit THEIR pipe. After all, who can build a better pipe for a LRD motor than LRD, and so forth.

It said it gained that much hp. And it said it was for a 400ex. To me 45hp added on a 400ex from just a 440 kit is not sounding right at all. Thats like 65 hp right there with everything else on.

400ex's are hard to make big power numbers on. My buddy's 440ex has over $2200 of LRD work in the motor, big bore, pipe, porting, oversize valves, etc etc and they claim double stock HP (about 48). Put $2200 into a R and you are looking at numbers in the 60s, of course you won't have the torque, so it depends on what type of riding you do.
