thanks honda king, its hard to find a good 400ex site in the uk,there a dying bread over hear.seems there still well loved in the states.ive owned 2 now and loved them both, reliability has never been an issue with either quad ive owned, and both were raced.but well looked after.i'll see if i can upload some picture of my 400ex. john

as i said earlier in my post,im looking to revamp the engine when the racings finished this year.ive read on this forum that the crf 450 cam chain is a heavier duty chain than stock.never having opened a 4 stroke motor up before, does the engine have to be removed from the frame to replace.

1 the cam chain

2 high comp piston

3 chain tensioner/guides

4 valve seals

if it does then while im on doing the above,i'll change the bearings and swingarm pivot bolt to a greasable one

thanks john

You can do a inframe rebuild, I took mine out cuz I dont have a garage to work in so I did it all in my basement away from the elements. If you do a inframe just make sure you clean the quad really good and plug the hole where the piston is so nothing drops in the bottom end.

just buy a clymer manual before you start and it will walk you through it, there great

i take it a clymer manual is like a british version of the hayes manual, which in the uk are like finding hens teeth.as i said the 400ex is a dying breed here in the uk.if you have any links to me finding either manual that would be great.
im in the same boat i dont have a garage either so would be great if the motor could stay in the frame. thanks john

hi,thanks for that link.the problem is.with me being in the uk,a lot of people wont post a small item like that.
i buy all my quad stuff from the states as its so much cheaper than here in the uk,and even adding on the p&p i still save a load

thanks john

That's what I have. It's nice in regards to the fact that you can print off some pages and use them til their toast...or laminate them so they stay clean. Best of both worlds.

As far as I can tell, it's the same thing...just on cd. Though I've never had the actual manual....which says something about the content of the cd....I use it a lot!

I have some big ***** nails in the underside of mine to catch my bumper with so they don't slip....and a lot of built up paint on the top side for traction.

thanks john
