View Full Version : Fuel Question
FISH ON!

I'm looking for some thoughts on how old racing fuel can get before it starts fouling up your carb? I've got a few gallons of VP-110 that our local station sells that has been mixed for approx 2 months.
For what we do (stock motor) I think we need to stay with Amoco 93 which brings my next question. Is the shelf life better on the lower octane gas? I know you can have real issues with oxygenated fuels but wasn't sure about pump gas.
How about you fuel experts out there?
Thanks,
Todd

You will probably get mixed replies on this but here is what my experience has been....
Straight race fuel seems to keep longer than pump gas so naturally mixed fuel will not last as long as straight race fuel either. Also, how and where the fuel is stored seems to make a difference on how long it lasts.I keep our fuel in a cool dry place and make sure the lid and vent is tight. This seems to make it last longer than say a can that sits where direct sunlight can hit it for extended periods and the vent is open or the lid is loose.
2 months is pushing it I'd say. When in doubt.........dump it in the riding mower :D

you might even try mixing 89 and the 110 50/50.
some builders will even tell you to run the 89 and not the 93.
2 month is getting old , but fuel isnt cheap, maybe add to it and freshen it up and use it for practice.

Todd your stocker will perform well on premium pump gas , amoco is good its true octane rating is about 97. Try to only mix up what you can use in a week or so and keep gas stored in metal can only and it will keep for 3-6 months if sealed .
